Abbotsford , BC

Tri BC
21C / 70F
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 35m 49s
Overall Rank = 47/120
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 9/15
Pre-race routine:

Got up, had shower and shaved-wanted to look presentable- ate some vector and had a coffee. Drove to abbotsford and got body marked and racked the bike. Race never started til 945 and I was there at 0745. Oh well 2 hours of waiting to race never hurt no one. Did some walking and a good stretch.
Event warmup:

Walking and a good stretch of the arms and sholders.
Swim
  • 29m 42s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

NEED to get more time in the pool.
I would have placed better if I could swim.
The swim started with the sprint first then the Oly.
We started out and Right away I was geting kicked. just in the hands mind you. Well, I moved to the left and just never checked so swam a bit out of the way a couple of times but over all it was a good swim. Could not see the last bouy though as it was in the sun.
What would you do differently?:

More training, maybe a wetsuit as they were allowed.
More open water training and sighting practice.

Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The first 10 yards I was wobbely but picked it up and ran to the end of the racking station. I got my helmet and glasses on quick. the race belt took a bit. I had some water and a power shot. Got on the bike. Got distracted by Jen saying high, just kidding, and went out on the bike.

What would you do differently?:

Tape my gu to the bike.
That way I would not have to try and put it in my suit.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 32s
  • 40 kms
  • 31.36 km/hr
Comments:

The bike was good, the problem was that my computer went on the fritz during the bumps and I could not tell how fast I was going.
I got passed by a few people but not many. I passed quite a few people and a couple of CERVELO owners. I was happy about that.
What would you do differently?:

Training, need to get on the bike more.
Tape my gu to the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Went out with my helmet for 10 steps before realizing.
SO I just threw my helmet at my bike.
This made me forget about my hat.
During the heat this was not good at all.
What would you do differently?:

REMEMBER MY HAT!!!
Run
  • 49m 36s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 58s  min/km
Comments:

The run was pitiful to say the least. I came of the bike and immediatly got a side stitch but that went away before the first k. It made me slow down though. Then my legs just would not get going. I thought for sure I would have had a good run but sometimes you just cant win them all.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks with gu.
More bricks.
More bricks.
Need to race simulate more.
Post race
Warm down:

Some stretches and watching the finishers come in.
Talked with JEN and Li.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

This was my first tri ever.
I finished with a good time.
There was no aid stations for the bike, not sure if there are supposed to be. Its too bad they started to late. It was a hot one folks.
I got a bit of a burn on my shoulders but other than that I am fine.
Just realized that there were no transition mat's so I have no Idea exactly how long my tranisitons were.

You did it!!!!!!!!! Congratulations! Wow, excellent time! I would love to run a 49 minute run...I'm so jealous. Sorry to hear you won't be having any more kids due to the race - lol. I knew you would kick butt!

WOW! First? Or your first olympic? I'd believe the latter. Keep up the work, and take some recovery rides/runs for the tri challenge when you feel up to it!

Thanks everybody.
Yes this is my first ever.
I took the big leap.
Now I am thinking I should have started with a sprint.
This was one of the hardest things I have ever done.
2 weeks of training before my next oly
as for the 49 10 k, I have not got the official time yet but it is 49.something.

Just got the results in.
Posted this morning.

Dan your race was fantastic. I know, I was there to witness it.

Uhh, sorry I slowed down your T1. I wasn't going to say anything, but you were looking so fantastic out there, I just had to cheer you on.

As I told you yesterday, that was a fantastic time for your first tri. You are going to be crazy fast (maybe you should change your username here) with just a bit more focused training. Want a coach? Then I can bask in your glory.

Seriously every leg in your tri was great and I don't think you have anything at all to be disappointed about. Good luck in your second.

Jen

PS - You looked great in the Javelin suit. Go Team Javelin!

Can't wait until my new coach gives me a training plan
Well, thanks everyone.
I am happy about my race.
I figure I could not have done any better than I did, thats all that matters.
With my new coach I will be unstopable!
