Swim
Comments: Little nervous after the fiasco at CdA, but there were only 100 or so women in this wave, so it wasn't bad. Ran in a bit farther than I should have, next time I'll swim sooner. Got comfortable pretty quickly. Took a breath at one point, saw a black duck 5 feet a way. Yuk!! Started moving a bit quicker! Passed a guy in the earlier wave - he advised that he had no business being out there. He may have been right! Race seemed long, but I figured that was in my head. Heard it from many other athletes later, though....maybe! Didn't swallow too much water, but that salt is yukky. Glad to see the sand! What would you do differently?: I just need to move faster out there - stop trying to get through it, and start trying to race it! Transition 1
Comments: Ha! Thought this would be longer because of the monster run, but I guess not. Jeff was there when I got into T1 - and he started 5 minutes after me. Dang. Got my suit off quickly, but unfortunately the timing chip came off with it. That cost a few, but skipping the gloves made up for it. Ru for the border! What would you do differently?: Learn how not to sit?!? Bike
Comments: Wow!! My plan was to make the bike the best possible. It just felt good, and I had so much fun. Got passed by only one woman, and only a few guys, and did lots of passing. I never dropped out of my big ring...wanted to see if I could, since I'm contemplating a double for the new bike. I hit 34 mph on a few downhills, and felt great the whole time! Drank my entire bottle of SE (5 scoops), but not enough water. What would you do differently?: Nothing!! Transition 2
Comments: I thought this was faster. Dang! Run
Comments: Went out strong, with a guy from my club. It was hot! Settled into a 8:30 ish pace. Beautiful course along the ocean. Ate a gu at mile 3, drank water at 2 aid stations. Saw a woman that I had met the day before at the WP tournament - she said 'even the mitty moms are beating our moms!' Made me laugh for a while - our boys had really beaten theirs yesterday. Last 1.5 miles were tough, and my pace really dropped. Had to talk myself out of walking. Honestly, I was really afraid of somebody I knew seeing that - peer pressure! My feet HURT, so did my knees. No meds in the body, not sure how that effected me. What would you do differently?: Nothing..... Post race
Warm down: Danced around at my time! Jeff PR'd too, and our team did well. Waited for results - worth it to see the top 10! Headed over to a teammate's house for a bbq and adult recovery beverages. It was a great day!! Last updated: 2010-08-11 12:00 AM

Didn't sleep much the night before - chaperoned a WP party and then had a tough time falling asleep. Awake at 4:30, ate a good breakfast, then tossed the cookies at 5:15. No clue as to why, but also not sure if everything was lost - so forego re-taking meds. Drove over the hill and found a decent parking sport. Headed over to transition, and found a spot with Jeff. The sun is out, it's 65 degrees already. Wow!
Didn't do anything but walk around and chat with people - nice set up for that! My wave was set to go off at 8:20, Jeff's at 8:25. Mandatory meeting at the beach at 7:50, so we headed down at about 7:40. Hurry up and.......wait. Here comes the fog! Can't see out to the first buoy, or the end of the pier, so the race is on hold. Start to worry that they'll cancel the swim, because of road permits for the bike! Jump in a do a bit of a warm-up - oh, yeah, about 90 seconds. A little interior heating of the suit, good to go. Lifeguards okay the start, we're only 20(?) minutes behind.
