Subject: RE: Tris and banned iPods? mll1605 - 2010-10-01 6:56 PM The HM I ran earlier this year had the majority of the runners using ipods. I was pretty disappointed. I see longer races as a somewhat social event and you can't strike up conversations with random people when they are zoned out.
I was running that race with a friend and was bummed when she put her ipod on at the start. So much for having a talking buddy during the race. I might as well have been running by myself.
The ipods during races seem to be a more recent thing, running 6-7 years ago people were still willing to talk to you - but then ipods were a lot heavier/bulky then.
Good point! I ran a full marathon about 7 years ago, and while I did have some music with me (this was before iPods, or at least before I had one ) much of the time I didn't listen. I met lots of great people, and some of them were my "running angels"...really got me through some dark miles where I thought I wasn't going to make it. I ran two HMs this past summer, and talked to no one. Much less social. |
