Subject: I'm BAAAAaaack Hello all,
I have unfortunately been gone for a while (almost a year. ) It has been a rough one, but I have come out the other side stronger for it. Following the mild patellar tear late last year, in the followups, the orthopedist noticed a knee issue and figured out why my knees are so bad. Patellofemoral rub. Basically, my kneecaps would rub on my femur with every pedal stroke on the bike... did the word OUCH just cross your mind. Yeah... pretty much.
I had my first knee surgery in March and after nearly 12 weeks of recovery (extraordinarily long and painful ) I was back on the bike. Due to the major loss of quad function following surgery, I have not been able to run... starting over at ground zero there. I made it through the summer with one good knee, one bad knee. I have heard the words warrior, inspiration, stupid and dumb in the last couple of months. One bout of major heat exhaustion later, finally made it to Bike MS and got 50 miles in. That was saturday, I rested and iced on sunday. On monday, I had the other knee fixed.
The recovery process for the right knee has been divergently opposite than the left and MUCH EASIER!! I am barely 3 weeks out from surgery and I am already back on the bike, walking and beginning training for my first sprint of the year next year. White Lake Sprint in early May.
I guess I officially returned to tri training today with my first WALK of the conservative 5k plan. Considering how much everything in my legs and stride have changed. I am learning to run all over again. My PT is working with me to make sure foot strike and everything are normal and then I should be good. Hope to see you all out there soon. |
