open-water or other swimming in Singapore?

Okay, swimming. You do not want to do OWS in Singapore. Trust me on this. Blech.

But there are GORGEOUS, CHEAP, ACCESSIBLE public pools for swimming. Here are a few.

This place is the SHITZ and an experience to swim at, so I hear--world class facilities. Reasonably close to MRT station. I think it'd be worth it just for the experience.

The only time I get in the "ocean" is when there's an event here.   It just doesn't feel right with the mass parking lot of ships only an earshot away.  But if you really want to do some open water swimming, most people train @ Sentosa Tanjon Beach.  I know Tribob trains there on Saturdays around 4pm if you're looking for group session.  As for other swimming pools, you can try:  Farrer Park Swimming Complex or Buona Vista Swimming Complex.  Both are fairly close to Orchard & only a short cab ride away.

Congrats on the new Trek.  Post picks!  I was a good boy this year and I'm picking up my new Trek Speed Concept after xmas. Can't wait to ride it!!!

No problem. I did get Yanti's post in time and swam at Toa Payoh, but not before being dragged to Tanjong by a beach-crazy colleague. Must agree the ships are a little disconcerting. It was useful in reminding myself to breathe on both sides, though. (Somehow my coaches never worked that into me very well, or I lost the habit; didn't really think about it until last year.) Kept wanting to look at the ships as well as at the beach!

Too embarassed to post pics of the bike. It seems pretty low-end compared to the fancy steeds people post as bike porn. My budget is limited and also my road riding time here. It does fit well and is very comfortable to ride.  Haven't had much chance to ride as Sunday AM's are taken up with long runs lately. Did get to the industrial park to check it out, but after a 2-hour run!  Definitley a step up from the mtn bike, but too tired to really figure out the gear/cadence thing and do any sustained hard riding. Will tackle biking seriously after half-marathon in two weeks and Christmas break in the US.
