Swim
Comments: Never swam with that many people before. Got swam over by several people and breathing was messed up for a bit. Did a mix of breast and free, 50%. Found myself grasping for breath at some point, probably due to nervousness. I thought I was slow with all the breaststroke, but official time showed only 13 min 10 sec -- personal best! I'm not complaining :) What would you do differently?: Try to do freestyle for the whole course. Transition 1
Comments: Long distance from beach to transition area and had to put on slippers. path was rough with little stones and stuffs. Had to run for a few minutes to transition area, still grasping for breath. Bro ran beside me at the spectator area, telling me to relax. Made the mistake of putting on socks and shoes before putting on bike shorts. Luckily I didn't tie my shoe laces (I'm wearing runing shoes. Don't have cleats) so I can easily pull my feet out. I'm in the middle of the entire transtion area (2000+ racers). Took me a while to get out. And I took some time drinking. What would you do differently?: Better planning: put on bike shorts first. Bike
Comments: I MADE "THE HILL" WITHOUT STOPPING!!!!! It's also a personal best for my riding. Used my gears more effectly, thanks to the tips from Gwendal when we practiced last week, when I clocked 55 min for the 12 mile. I am 8 min faster today! Slowed down a bit to drink more gatorade. I'm not good at steering with one hand. Only started biking in April. Still afraid of height/speed. Clocked 4.5 mph going up "The Hill" and 32 mph going downhill. Was very nervous, and kept breaking. What would you do differently?: Practice eating and drinking on bike. Get over the fear of speed and height. Transition 2
Comments: Not much to do as I was riding with my running shoes. Went to the wrong numbers and wasted some 20 sec looking for my stuffs. Spend another 20 sec hydrating. What would you do differently?: Pay attention to my own bib number. Run
Comments: My legs felt so heavy after the bike and I thought I was moving very slowly, and had to walked a bit due to side stitches. I was thinking "sh!t! It's going to take me 40 min to do it". Turned out official time is the same as my average speed. Again, no complain :) Saw most of the people I know (both coworkers, their friend, MomX3). One coworker started 2-3 waves after mine and overtook me at around mile 1.5 during running. What would you do differently?: Run the whole course. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Ate some watermelon and 1/2 banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: Tired Event comments: Very good first triathlon experience. Will do it again. Also considering vonlunteering in other races. Last updated: 2005-04-14 12:00 AM

Had BPJ, a tiny cup of coffee, gatorade and plenty of water before leaving the hotel. Drove to race site, met up with bunch of friends. Set up transition area and found that there were 2 other bikes that are axactly like mine within 5 numbers of my bib number. One was right next to me.
Walked around with MomX3. She was in the same wave with me. Jumped into the water for a few nimutes.
