Total Time = 2h 14m 43s
Overall Rank = 48/217
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 1/22
Pre-race routine:

Wake up at 4:30am, eat Cliff Bar, drink 20oz Diet Coke and 20oz PowerBar Endurance.
Event warmup:

Run 2 miles, Bike 10, swim ~600m.
Swim
  • 16m 41s
  • 1000 meters
  • 01m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

Got on the wrong set of feet, but then after ~100m was able to get on the lead swimmer's feet. Stayed there until about the half way point and then moved right to pass him. At that point, I was in about knee deep water close to an island, and was able to stand and do about 4 dolphin dives. Sweet! Was able to get about a 15m gap on the lead swimmer in my wave, and kept that margin the rest of the way. First in wave out of the water, and caught the majority of the first wave that started 3 minutes ahead. Swim was probably 100m longer than 1000m, based on time.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Glasses were fogged up and so I had a bit of a rough time getting clipped in. Otherwise, good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not put glasses on until up to speed on bike.1
Bike
  • 1h 04m 50s
  • 23 miles
  • 21.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike. This was my fastest average speed in a race this season, despite technical, hilly course.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, maybe push a little harder on the hills?
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Struggled for a few seconds getting crap out of my jersey pocket, otherwise good transition. Forgot gel that I was going to bring on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Bring gel, leave crap in pockets.
Run
  • 49m 46s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run. Negative split and felt really, really strong. First ever tri 10K under 50 minutes (and that's going back to 1993!).
What would you do differently?:

Go harder! Had too much left!
Post race
Warm down:

Ran a couple of easy miles, swam a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Carrying too much weight!

Event comments:

No results available at race due to rain and computer issues. Results should be posted later today (dying to know how I placed. Should have had Gatorade on the run course (a two + hour race demands more than water). Could have had a bottle exchange on the bike course. Woohoo! 1st in my last ever Clydesdale race!

Thanks, everybody. It was just one of those good days where everything was clicking. I even had fun riding in the rain.

Oh...and it turns out that I did meet sranney, I just didn't know it. We were in the water before the start, talking about Team Javelin (he had sspied my shweet sausage suit). Turns out he'd been accepted but was then told they were all out of tri suits for the year. Bummer.

Awesome Race!!You were smoking on the whole race....super swim catching the wave before and being first in your group....fastest bike mph, and negative splits. No wonder you placed 1st in Clydes...but sounds like you won't be competing in that group for long!!Wicked good as people in NE say or maybe just MA.
