Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:00 to leave by 4:30 so we can drop a car at the finish line as this is a point to point. There are shuttles, but I just did what I was told.

Was really unsure if I would be running as I caught a cold a couple days prior and felt pretty congested during the evening.

Had some coffee on the way down and about 16 oz of cytomax (~2 hrs prior), then ate a salty peanut granola bar and gel about 15 mins before race start.
Event warmup:

Ran about .5 miles with some time at race pace.

Comments:

Paced the first 5 miles easy (tried to stay at or slightly below goal pace).

Things began to thin out from miles 6 to 8. I found a few people that were running my pace and just hung with them, focusing on just holding race pace until mile 10.

They later fizzled out and I latched onto one guy who was going slightly faster than pace and I hung with them a little because there wasn't anyone else.

He pulled me up to some other groups, but I found myself alone or pulling for much of miles 7-9.

Plan was to pick up the pace after mile 10, but I mistakely started trying to pass people a little after mile 9. This made things more difficult than necessary during the slight incline on the base at mile 10, but after the turnaround, refocused on trying to pass people for the final miles.

Was only able to catch about 6 or 7 people.

The final stretch to the finish is a 2000 foot straight away that seemed to last forever. Felt good to still be able to finish strong going down the chute.
What would you do differently?:

Wait until mile 10 to begin to push to the finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure. My illness definitely didn't help, but not sure it hurt that much either. My time/pace was right at the target for which I've been training.
