Subject: Suggestions on comfortable Tri saddle?
I know this is kind of a "gray area" question but I just started a few weeks ago my 16-week 1/2 IM training.  Now that I am riding a lot more I have really been concerned with my saddle?  It is real uncomfortable and after two weeks I have had constant soreness on my inner rear?  I know this can be because a variety of things but is this common considering I have really not ridden much up until the past week?  I have read that the stock saddles on the Cervelo P2k (my bike) is real firm and not the best for begineer-intermediate triathletes.  It is the stock Cervelo Sella Itaila.  Any suggestions on a solid saddle that is more on the comfort side?  If not, should I just suck it up as I am sure I will just get used to it?

Thanks for your help!

saddles are a really individual thing

best bet is if your local bike store has a generous return policy, or tester saddles

the Cobb saddles are pricey but i have heard very good things about them and they do have a generous return policy

what parts, specifically, are sore ... 'inner rear' isn't too helpful, sorry

also, by sore, do you mean the skin is red and painful, any rashes, any saddle sores

or is it the tissue underneath the skin

have you had a bike fitting specifically for that bike ... they can usually recommend some good saddles and include it as part of the fitting ...

Agreed, saddles are a very personal thing. I found the Adamo Typhoon to suit me just fine! It's worth a try.

As you mentioned as we train more on the bike, the saddle becomes less and less of a problem.  However, until we get very acustomed to riding, it can be a real nightmare.  Especially on a bike trainer.

I had this problem so I bought a Cobb V-flow plus.  It did help for sure, but it was not a complete solution.  I still had some pain.  But as I ride more, discomfort becomes less of an issue.  Being a beginner, I have no experience with other saddles besides the stock Specialized saddle that came with my bike.

Hope this helps.

T.I.T.S.: No saddle will be comfortable until you're used to putting Time In The Saddle.  Don't be tempted to get a big cushy saddle--whether the saddle you have is suited for you doesn't have to do with the amount of cushioning.

I use the first generation Flite on the road bike, but like something a little more "substantial" on the tri bike. I've had good luck with the Profile Tri-Stryke saddle, and I ride pretty steep and on the nose mostly.

The stock Cervelo saddle is dreadful, IMO. After many tries, I've settled on the Adamo racing saddle and it has saved my butt (literally). I loooooove this saddle!

There are small muscles in your rear that need to strengthen up that does take time to strengthen. Are you using good bike shorts? Chamois cream?

Did you get a bike fit?

If not may want to get that done first.

It is nice to get a saddle that can be returned..so try a local bike shop that allows you to either return/exchange them, or has a demo program.

I like SMP saddles (use Glider) as they have large cut off so my soft tissue doesn't tough the saddle.

I agree, it's a combination of factors that make for a comfortable, overall position.

Having said that, a few I recommend adding to your list are the Specialized Romin, Serfas Tri 3, Fizik Arione and Cobb.

Does it feel like your rear is just really bruised when you sit on the bike?  I had that problem and did solve it by finding a different saddle that fit me better.  I agree with the advice to get a good fit and/or find a bike shop that has tester saddles or a generous return policy.

Me, too!  I use the Adamo Road saddle (on my Tri bike).  I can't believe how much difference this saddle has made for me.  I can stay in aero (comfortably) for hours and hours.  LOVE it !!!!

Check 'em out:

http://www.ismseat.com/index.htm

Read about them, the science behind the design makes tons of sense   They do look a little silly; however, the fit is amazing.

The stock P2 saddle did not work for me. The Adamo Road did not work for me. But I love my Profile Designs Tri Stryke. There is no way to predict which to buy, just let your derriere try a few and choose.

looks like saddle police has arrived...."cobb is best"  "no adamo"

here is some help with your saddle inquiry.  you are new to riding, so listen up sit down on the bike and just ride, believe me after about 3k miles that seat will fit like a glove.

Thanks for all the advice.  I have been fitted on my bike so I am going to go next weekend and try a few options out.  Hopefully I will come out with the right choice.

Thanks again!

Ding! Ding! Ding!

My mountain bike has a $12 seat on it.  I won't even venture to call it a saddle.  My roadie has a seat that came off a bike I found in the trash.  A little butt cream and a lot of time in the saddle will solve your problem.

Post a photo of your butt.
Include a ruler in the photo, so that we can be sure of the size.
