Pre-race routine:

Day before spent at Universal riding adrenaline pumping roller coasters. Woke up at 3:00 AM. Woke up Emily, my 16 year old daughter, the star of this race!
Ate bagel, banana, sipped a gatorade, took bus to start. Took off throw away jeans and jacket and put them in my dry bag. Put poncho on. Visited porta potty.
Event warmup:

Shuffled to start. Way more crowded walk than the marathon last year. Danced a little, but mostly focused on keeping Emily calm.
Run
  • 3h 07m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 14m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

It was an excellent experience.
#1 Running with my eldest daughter.
#2 Running slower showed me how fresh you can feel after a long run. And how much fun you can have, even at longer distances.
What would you do differently?:

Not carry hydration.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked about one mile to car. 5 minutes of stretching. 8 hours at Universal Parks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Emily needed to do more of her short runs, and not just the long ones.

Event comments:

Everyone should try a Disney Marathon Weekend at least once. With a teenage daughter makes it that much sweeter. Next year, the Goofy?

Performance: Good
Did a pretty good job pacing Emily. We were hoping for a 2:45 to 3:00 finish, but after about 3 miles it became apparent that 3:00 would be a stretch. We tried pretty hard at mile 10-11 and logged a 13:08 mile, but could not keep it going.
Course: Flat. They really updgraded the entertainment. Cannot remember too much time when we weren't seeing something cool, or heading toward or away from some music.

Thanks.

I mean, I was singing, screaming to the crowds, slapping ^5's through all 13.1 miles.  Never, not once did I feel bad at all, except for about 30 minutes after stopping, while sitting in the car.

Great report.  My ex sister in law is looking at running the princess one later this year.  My 14 year old is not interested in running this kind of distance - guess it takes away from IPOD interaction.

So - you carried hydration and it was not needed?  Is the support that good, or did you find it was just too much to carry?  I usually run my longer runs or brick runs with a fuel belt containing 2 typical size bottles.  You carring similar or a 4 bottle one.

When I run with my girls, they usually suck all my water for me - so have to carry a spare bottle.

Finally - what's up with the bad feeling in the car 30 minutes later?

#1 I carried extra hydration in case my daughter would need it.  She only drank it for a change of flavor and only drank ~3 oz of the 16 oz that I carried on my hydration belt.  There was plenty of water and gatorade on the course.

#2 - Just that my legs started to tighten up in the car while we were in a traffic jam leaving the race.
