I'm guessing you already have 25 PMs by now, but in case anyone else is wondering, POTUS = President Of The United States.

He wasn't out of control, he was just "staying the course".

snumb148 - 2005-08-15 4:37 PM Its easy for people to bash Bush, just like its easy for me to Bash Kerry, Hillary, Kennedy, the list goes on and on...I love him, but isnt this the "Triathlon Talk" forum? This post started out on topic, but President bashing should be in another forum.

Are you joking? Since when do we stay on point in any thread?

Feel free to bash whomever you wish to bash. Your opinions threaten no one. Have at it -  it's the American Way!

Yes, best part is to see where these threads are headed, they take on a life of their own. I recall the "confessions thread" as a case in point. Let's be politically incorrect, much more fun! Of course Bush is a moron, but we can still respect him on the bike!

You guys just wait until I see John Kerry on a bike.... I'm not going to wave or even give the thumbs up sign to him..... however if I see Prez Bush out pedaling around I will let him draft if he wants.... so there!

And no I don't want to hear how Bush avoids all drafts......

Matt, we won't even ask you to help Kerry change his tire if he's pulled over on his bike. Just tell him you had a spare tube until you didn't have a spare tube.

Oh, and you're not supposed to pass the POTUS, so how is he gonna draft off you?

FWIW John Edwards is a 3:15 marathon runner, and Kerry is a pretty good skier. I'm sure though with W that any minor accomplishment is blown up by his staff. that's what politicians do. It's HOllywood for ugly people. After all, they bragged about their war records (we know Bush was Awol), their success in school (Kerry and Bush were average students) and business (W somehow managed to lose money in oil in TX and "salvaged" the Rangers with the help of real businessmen who saw a good ticket coming. So I wouldn't get excited about 20mph on knobbies. Downhill, tailwind and for 5 seconds? W is in ordinary shape for his age. Nothing more.

We should rename this the "cheap shot" or "political drive-by" thread.  Or, maybe even the "Saccharine Thread", tasty at first, but no real substance.

I think Kerry is a good jetskier!!! (lol)

I'm very happy that the president is doing it. It's a good example for the rest of the country.

Republicans are generally more fit than democrats on the congressionnal level (both house and senate).

Might be from the fact they have less tendency to feel sorry for themselves than some cry-babies democrats.

Freak Monk - source of your facts on the fitness level of Congresspeople?  Thanks in advance.

Cry-baby dems - heh, that's creative.

This thread should probably be moved to Cup Of Joe, but I can't help wondering about the importance of physical fitness (or at least the illusion thereof) in the POTUS. How long has this been a big deal?  A long time, I think. Washington threw a rock across the Potomac. Lincoln grew up splitting rails. Teddy Roosevelt was quite the sportsman; Franklin Roosevelt was obviously not. JFK was athletic (although hampered by back problems); Nixon wore long pants and shoes to the beach. Carter suffered bad PR for bonking in a race; Reagan put forth an air of vitality eventhough his active days were far behind him. In todays media saturated world, could a Taft, Arthur, or Cleveland ever win the presidency?

Leave it to a Republican to throw around a "funny slur". I understand they did that a lot in the sixties too. I think it had something to do with civil right or something....

I'm sure the fitness gap would be pretty close if you handicap the Democrats for having Ted Kennedy.

Funny, I don't see the Canadians whining about their government.  Let's see...

The Canadians claim to have a monarchy but really don't.

The United States says they don't have a monarchy but really do.  (2008 Jeb Bush vrs. Hilary Clinton?)

When the Canadian Prime Minister has a "vote of no confidence", they hold an election and maybe replace him.

When the President of the U.S. loses the confidence of Congress, he attacks another country.  (True for the last 50 years with the possible exception of Carter).

Have a good one.

The Kennedys....John Kerry....Michael Dukakis. Hey, the Massachusetts politicians don't deserve the bad fitness rep. They get PLENTY of exercise jumping to conclusions.

And you wonder why we all want to move out of this state...

Just remember, a president is never really popular until he's dead, though Nixon may prove me wrong on that assumption.
