Total Time = 1h 18m 25s
Overall Rank = 140/206
Age Group = M Vet
Age Group Rank = 39/50
Pre-race routine:

Arrived excessively early, my routine appears to invole being among the first to register.
Event warmup:

I had walked to the race site but this was 1 mile about an hour and a half before the race so my guess is that it doesn't really count as a warm up.
Swim
  • 12m 23s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 39s / 100 meters
Comments:

Caught on the hop a bit with a whistle start. The swim up to the first bouy felt pretty crowded and rounding the first bouy was a bit of a mess. On turning at the bouy it was very hard to spot some water to swim in but after this things started to open up a bit and my stroke felt better. By the last leg I was enjoying racing the people around me.
What would you do differently?:

I would start a bit quicker and nearer the front so that I had less people to try to pass.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Felt like I took an eternity in transition. My legs were a bit wobbly and hands a bit numb. Everything was hard to do.
Transition time is included in the bike time.
What would you do differently?:

Practise taken my suit off, shoes and hat on with cold fingers while fatigued.
Bike
  • 40m 49s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.27 mile/hr
Comments:

Still amazed at how fast people can cycle past me. Generally happy with my bike leg. I was using Alasdair's bike and I think this made a massive difference going up hill's.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

The bike racking was boxes that had slits that your bike wheel went into. The guy next to me had left his wetsuit drapped across my wheel slit so I had to move his suit before I could rack my bike.
Transition time is included in the bike time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 25m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

For the first half mile or so my left foot felt like a block of ice. Eventually life returned to it. Happy with my run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Once again I forgot to do any kind of warm down, to anxious to go and speak to friends and family.

Event comments:

The race organization was a bit rubbish.Website said you could register the day before but not where to register (different place entirely)the website also gave different times when the race starts.Information was very sparse and sometimes contradictory. The transition area was being set up approx half an hour before everyone was meant to be clear of there. There was also a lot of crossing at the transition area, I'm sure a lot of this could be eliminated.

Posted a great race there Dave.

Did you use baby oil or body glide around your
ankles & wrists to help get the wetsuit off?

Most importantly did you get a big cheer from your support crew??

Thanks Cassie.

I did not use any lubrication, maybe I should try it next time. My support crew (of 12) made a lot of noise everytime I passed them (as there were 3 laps I passed them quite a lot).
I should get some photos passed on in the near future and will post some of them here..
