I have an RR from last year.

Fingers crossed on the weather, it doesn't look great, especially with the precedent that they canceled swims at UCSD and USC, and just canceled the UCSB race.

Good luck at the tri. Race fast! I'm going to miss it since I procrastinated and it's sold out.

The RDs will be careful - since the race is the regional college championship, they're hyper-sensitive to safety. As you may have heard, heavy runoff just before the 2010 national championships made about half the athletes sick.

Yup I am new to CCTC, just joined last week.  The water will definitely be cold....... but the air will be colder, so it will actually be a relief to get in.  At least that's what I'm going to tell myself!

just talked to the lake...water in the low 50s! brrrrrr. cold day. may need a long sleeve on the bike, especially after that water.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for a swim, despite the freezing temps. Lopez is pretty clean, hopefully the run off doesn't get it too nasty!

That was legendary. In one of the first years, maybe the very first, there was snow during the bike leg, and I'm told a guy wore his wetsuit cycling.

dang. snow. brutal.

my last open water workout at Lopez was a couple weeks back when it was snowing in Atascadero and about 40ish degrees for a high at Lopez. butt A$$ cold, could barely keep my face in the water. hopefully it will be warmer than that, cause my swim split will SUFFER if it is that cold. motivation to get out fast competing with full body cramps and ice cream headaches.

Brutal.

I screwed up and am missing it this year, but I picked up a couple of tricks last year. If you're in a later wave, wear warm clothes over your wetsuit and some sort of shoes, and stuff it all in a duffel just before you "warm" up in the water.

Everyone is at the same disadvantage, and our splits were slow last year with water in the mid to low 50s.

One way to make time is to haul butt out of the water, really push yourself to run through T1 as fast as you can. People were numb and shell shocked after the water and were lethargic in transition.

Good luck! (Go Poly!)

had an email conversation with the RD...

water temp 54. swim is still on as of now. wetsuit mandatory event now (what kind of nut bar would not wear a wetsuit...)

thinking booties, hood and wettie. and seconds on the GO POLY! good luck to everyone, but Cal Poly students/alum get special juju.

forecast for some clearing today, showers tomorrow and sunny on sunday...low 46 in the morning, high of 60. so, water 54, air around 50ish at the start, but sunny and not too windy! great day for racing...

see y'all there, and good luck!

I did it the year of the lovely snow and somehow finished the olympic. A guy actually did wear his wetsuit the whole way. The swim is numbingly freezing. If you have a head cap wear it. If not, double up on your swim cap. Wear a silicone one under the latex one. Bike is a little bit hillier than expected...flat run. Beautiful course. If anything bring arm warmers for that bike. You're probably not going to feel your feet until mile 2 or 3 of the run.

turned out to be fun and a nice day! water cold, fog made sighting tough for me but swim wasn't near as bad as it could have been. i think i left about 8-10 minutes on the course, but still had a good day and got second my age group, 23rd overall.

how'd everyone do? have a fun time? congrats on the opening race!

I had fun, could have done a bit better on the bike, and that fog definitely made sighting a challenge for me too.  That course was pretty soggy, especially the run.  Good times!!

Good job, guys! Fog on the swim? You're tougher than I am! I can't wait to see the RRs.

I thought it was a great race and really nice course. Unfortunately my rear derailleur completely snapped/broke at about mile 22 of the bike so I just carried my bike the last couple of miles before doing the run.  Not exactly the time I was looking for but some things are just out of our hands.  RR to come later
