Subject: RE: Attention deficit triathletesThis is exactly how I came to choose triathlon! I was running for a long time, and as my runs got longer, my interest in working out fell off. Same old same old, one foot in front of the other. Though I enjoyed the increased fitness and needed a goal, I just couldn't get excited about plodding along for all those training miles. Tri training is perfect for the attention-challenged because there's such a great deal of variety -- three different sports, and even different workout types within the 3 sports. No two workouts are the same! I've been this way all my life, and I kind of just have learned to live with it and be effective anyway...kind of like that famous brain surgeon with Tourette's who just goes with the flow of his nervous tics..! IN my early 20s I remarked to a car full of friends "I would just hate it if I wasn't ADD. It would be so boring." They all burst out laughing, although I really hadn't meant to say anything funny. I just didn't realize that most 'normal' people don't feel bored when things are going along at a smooth, steady pace...! |
