Comments:

A NEW HALF MARATHON PR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That being said, I will never do this race again! I'll focus on some of the negative things first.

1. It was so freakin cold and windy today. Too cold and too windy for a race effort in my opinion and this is coming from someone who runs outside at 4:30am all winter long in rain and snow and temps so cold my gatorade freezes.

2. This course is TERRIBLE!!!! One freakin long, lonely road. Throughout the whole race you're either going north or south, so there is very little variation when it comes to the wind. Fortunately, the wind was at our backs for the hardest mmiles (0-1.5, 6.5-11.5)

3. At about mile 4.5 just before the hardest "hill" of the race, I tucked in behing a guy and a girl. I followed them and satyed out of the wind for about a half mile until the base of the hill. I told them that it was my turn and the two of them got in lone behind me. I shielded them from the wind and pulled up the hill thinking I would get repayed on the other side. When we go to the crest of the hill, the guy just took off. So much for any help. The girl, (all5'5" and 100lbs of her) even said, "wow, that was fucked up". She said she would let me draft off of her but we both knew that would be meaningless because I'm about twice her size.

4. My f'ing ipod battery went dead at about mile 8... I knew I should have recharged it last night.

-------

OK, now the rest of the race... I was feeling great from the beginning. My first mile was among the fastest I have ever done in any road race. Going into the stiff wind from miles 1.5 to 6.5 was a bitch but I knew I could push through it. At about mile 9, I could feel myself drifting and getting pretty worn out. I tucked in behind a guy who was slower than me, but I needed a break.

At mile 11.5, the last turn around, I started to fall apart. The weather took a lot out of me, but I needed to push regardless of what my time was. Bobby was nice enough to run with me for the last .5. I was thrilled when I got the pr, but I was too exhausted and beat up and the cold wind was too intense to really enjoy it.

1.)  HTFU

2.) This course is a PR course, my Friend.  And you got a 3-minute PR!!  Your first sub 9-minute mile avg for a half marathon!!!

3.)  Boo-hoo, some dude didn't take his turn at the front .  Waahh - Waaah.

4.) See #1 up top.  *YOU* forgot to recharge *YOUR* i-pod so you had no 1986 Madonna, Duran Duran, Enya or Barry Manilow ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEqXtkDT9uM  to motivate you?!?  And it's the Suffolk County Half courses fault.  W.T.F

How about some gratitude and respect for the course that helped you to a wicked PR!!  Maybe you should do the Rock & Roll Marathon series, wear a costume,  join a pace group to draft for you, and let hordes of cheering fans and bands playing carry and entertain you for 13.1 thrilling, exciting, stimulating miles.  I am shocked that a 4 AM warrior like yourself would be so fragile and bitter about a fantastic bare-bones true Runner's race.  Next year keep your 20 bucks and your negativity at home.  Sheeesh.

Despite it all, CONGRATS on the PR and I had a good time hanging out with you.  34 days till Long Island Half.....
