Kath,

Just have fun.  You've done the work. Now you get to cash in with the experience.  One bit of advice.  Stay in the moment.  Things are bound not to go exactly as planned.  That's OK.  Don't worry about it.   The day is long.  If the pendulum appears to be swinging against you, don't worry, just bide your time.  Keep moving forward no matter what. There is plenty of time for things to swing back your way.  As a problem arises, just fix it.  Don't waste energy getting upset.  Just do what you've been taught to do to repair the problem and move on.  Trust me...the day is a fantastic adventure.

One other bit of advice Chrisse Wellington gave me and it works.  She wrote me once and said:

"Smile always."  You will not believe what power that smile has to focus your attitude on positive energy.  I got ready for the cannon to go off in the water, I smiled. I got cramps, I smiled.  I smiled the second half of the run nearly the whole damn way.  I was so grateful just to be there.

Don't panic.  Keep moving forward.  Smile.

You will do fantastic!

From the IMAZ race watching thread, there is a website that automatically updates all the BT members doing the race.  Here is the link:

http://www.racedaytracker.com/BT/IMAZ.aspx

Kathleen is on the list so we should be able to track her as she completes her IRONMAN journey!

Good luck and have fun Kathleen!

Thanks Everybody!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support!  The weather looks pretty good for today and my booties and neoprene cap helped a lot during the practice swim so all good news.

Thanks again!

Kathleen

Hi All!

First off, thanks again for all the support these past months!

Here is a quick recap of my race.

The water was freezing and my legs started shaking half way through the swim. By the time I got out of the water I was shaking all over and my teeth were chattering. Transition took me almost 20 minutes due to how cold I was. I couldn't stop shaking. Not sure I would have made it if I had to be in the water much longer.
The bike went pretty well. I realized my GPS was gone. and stopped to talk to  my friends about that. The wind got really strong on the second and third loop. A stop at special needs and a porta potty slowed things up a bit there as well as a brief chat with the crew before my third lap. I wasn't ever winded (the benefit of coming from CO) but didn't know what to expect on the run and didn't have the speed showing on my Garmin as I didn't want it to effect me if it showed slower times then I am used to. I could have gone faster on the bike but again I just didn't know what to expect later on.
The run started out pretty well for me as I wanted to make sure I was ahead of the clock. Again, cardiovascularly, I was fine but the dreaded GI stuff started around mile 10 and from then all it was walking. Chicken broth helped but I was afraid to run for the fear of getting sick. Not a way you want to finish (or not finish) a race.  Mike Riley singled me out and had the spectators cheer "Kathleen Kellams, you are an Ironman".  Not a bad way to end a day.

Have to get on a plane. But I will touch base later.

Great job Kathleen! The tracking on trackmyathlete.com didn't seem to be working right, so I followed you on ironmanlive. When I saw you were in T1 for a while I figured you were taking your time to get warm and dry. I was really happy when I saw how good and consistent your bike splits were. I tried to stay up until the end, but I couldn't manage to stay awake, but once I saw the first two run splits I knew you were well on your way to a great finish.

Congratulations Ironman!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Hi All,

I hope everyone had a great holiday!

I finally posted my race report.  Like the race itself, I took it event by event  writing one segment every night.

Thanks again everyone! I hope people continue to check in here as this group is truly great.

Kath, you rock!

I've been doing 1 to 2 hours on the bike nearly everyday with tempo, high cadence, single pedal drills and even some strength exercises with low cadence and high power like climbing hills.  All good.  Ran twice, once 5K and once 10K.  Feel sluggish at first but loosen up.

Last meeting with the doc on Tuesday.  I will get released for swimming then. Plan to add pool time with Masters, some indivvvidual coaching with a tri cocach for swmming, and maybe a personal trainer for a month or two to get my core solid again.

Signed up for Branson half IM in September and two short course races our club puts on here in June and July.  Might do one more half at Racine or Wisconsin Dells (Rev3 new one.)

Finally got to read the RR Kathleen - great read and motivator for me!

Iceman - glad to see you are back at it! Looks like next season will be busy for you!

My PF is still bothering me, starting on the 4th month now.  I started running again a couple of weeks ago, doc said it was okay.  However, last Sunday I must of overdone it.  Couldn't walk on my sore foot most of this week.  The orthotics don't seem to be helping.  Have another Dr. appt on Monday - I am going to talk to him about physical therapy options (such as Rolfing or ART) also getting ready to buy the Strasburg sock.  Not going to run anymore until this is settled - which makes me sad, but I guess that gives me more time to ski! I am glad this is happening now and not affecting my season for next year!

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend - wooohooo!

Doctor gave the all clear.  I'm going to do some bike, run and swims with strength exercises and maybe cyclocross a time or two in Dec. and then rejoin my coach in January.

Great news Ice!  Good luck with the cyclocross races!  That sure looks like a good time!!

Don't be surprised if you look for this thread and find it is gone.  Some time in the next couple of weeks, I suspect we will get archived to make way for the new December mentor groups.  We can still use this thread after it has been archived, but it will be down with the archived groups of the past.
