Figured might as well start a thread for this race instead of discussing it in the Miami U thread!

I'm planning on doing at least one or two training rides of the route (or parts of it) between now and race day.  Anyone up for meeting at the park some weekend and putting in some good miles on the course?

I am down to ride the route.  Still need to figure out if I want to do the sprint or olympic distance.

Weekends I'd be up for it:

4/24 (It's Easter, but my wife works that day so I have no plans)

4/30-4/31

5/14-5/15

5/21-5/22

5/28-5/30

I was considering doing this tri to start the year off with a sprint...question though...will you all be wearing wetsuits for it?  I haven't been out for any OWS and need to badly...the swim killed me last Sept when I did this sprint.  What's the temp of lakes in Ohio...anyone go to East Fork Lake?

Thanks.

I don't think I will be wearing a wet suit.  I figure it will be really cold water so I'll have to live with it for the distance I choose

This race is the reason I purchased my wetsuit after my first tri-Deer Creek in Sept in '09.  I was so thankfull to have it last year for the race in June.  I, personally would not want to do this race without a wetsuit but I am a cold water wimp.  There are some thick skins out there that would and do, but not me.  Usually cold, and choppy. This race is my nemesis and I vow to do it until I feel comfortable with it!! But I think secretly, deep down inside I love this race because it is where it really started for me.  I'm in for the sprint!

I'm in for the sprint since I'm doing the warrior dash the day before.

I'm in for May 1st, 7th, 8th or May 15th for course work.

I for one will be very glad I have a wet suit.  It's normally windy and there is some rough chop.  The bike course is like NASCAR in that it's a bunch of left turns, straights and wind.

all you need is a speedo for Deer Creek - there is proof. Wetsuits are for girls

I am thinking the sprint for me as well since I am thinking of doing the Columbus Olympic at the end of the month.  750M in cold won't be too bad!

I'm in on nearly any of those listed dates... Who's making the call, so I can plan accordingly?

This looks like fun and could be my first go at this tri thing plus it is close to home.  I have to wait on registration for now because of an early June vacation possibility.   I do hope we can slip the days a little so I can participate.

Is May 1st good for everyone?

I'd rather go earlier than later, in case if I want to revisit the racing route another day.

I cannot do May 7-8, I am going TORSV that weekend. and after that I have only three weekends.

Works for me.  Probably best to meet near the transition area/beach parking lot.  I can go anytime, but typically prefer mornings for weekend workouts.

Morning is good.

We can start anytime between 9 and 10, or anytime.  whatever is more comfortable for everyone

Can you point the transition area on the map? I am not familiar with the area.

9:30 it is.

Take at look at these two maps and let me know if you still have questions:

If it's nice I might bring my portable grill.  I'm looking at riding at least 3 laps depending on weather, time, ect and I'm sure I'll be hungry.

you might want to check the rule book first

Rule 43.44 - Portable Grilling during the Bicycling Leg

"No competitor shall use a propane grilling device during competition. The only exception is for charcoal grills which must firmly attached between aerobars"

Would this be a good time to mention I don't eat meat?  Except the kind that swims.

Cows swim!

Hmmmm.....fish tacos are sounding tasty!  Black beans and cilantro and cabbage and salsa.....crap.  Now I'm hungry.

Don't worry B-Breath, I can tell the difference between tilapia and you!  I've never grilled fish before....hmmmmm.  This means I get to experiment!  Iron Chef Aysel.  I like the way that sounds.
