Subject: nutrition before practice swim

hey guys,

what does everyone eat the night before the big day or practice run (swim)?  also, what do you guys eat before a swim?  having a practice swim tomorrow and want to make sure i'm eating properly.

plan was to have some spaghetti tonight (lots of carbs) and maybe a yogurt before the swim?  any input or suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

Whatever I usually eat every night!

Breakfast before a swim is generally on the light side, though, if anything.

Night before a race I eat pretty normally - something not too spicy and moderate quantity and, most importantly, early enough so that it will pass before race time!

I don't like to eat within 1.5 hours of swimming or running.  Biking it doesn't bother me as much.

How long is the swim?  I eat like I do every day, as it's rare that I swim >hour, and we all have plenty of reserves to cover that.  If it's followed by a run or a bike, I try to get something quick in before that, after the swim

I swim 3 times a week with The Masters. I always eat a full Stinger or PowerBar at least 45 minutes prior to swimming. I will sometimes take in a PowerBar Gel with Caffeine since practice is at 5:30 AM. On the pool deck I always have a bottle of water too.  HTH.
