Subject: BT Book Club : Room

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the BT book club!

Here is the first book we are going to tackle:

Room by Emma Donoghue

http://www.roomthebook.com/#

This is a pretty popular book, so it should be readily available.

We will start the discussion on May 23.

At that time I will start a "discussion  " thread ok?

In the meantime, get your hands on a copy and start turning the pages.........or, umm, pressing the advance button on your Kindle........

Enjoy!

If I can get to the library in time to read it before the deadline, I will.  I must admit, the topic of the book leaves me feeling rather creeped out.

I totally agree. But this is one of the reasons that I want to read it...........a book that elicits a strong reaction is a plus.

We will start the discussion on May 23.

That's 20 days. Is it normal for a book group to have such a lengthy gap? I've never participated in one, but I think I'd go crazy reading a book and then waiting weeks to discuss it. Does the group pick more books for subsequent discussions in the meantime?

It's to let us slow readers catch up. If you're super fast, don't start reading till May 20th ;-)

Go train some more....it'll slow you down on the reading front.

And I was thinking that I will struggle to even obtain the book before then!  Sure I can read a book in one day but not when I work full-time and have two little kids at home and am limited to borrowing from the public library!

Haha...That shall do it

The reading technically wouldnt start until May 9, this would give time to people that havent been on BT the past couple of days to get on board and get the book.  In regards to the two weeks, some people read faster than others.  There are some Bters that have a lot of family obligations and not a lot of free time to read, so this would allow them to finish the book and be able to take part in the discussion.  If you are a fast reader you can wait until the last 5 days and then read the book, that way it would be fresh in your memorie, thats what i plan in doing.  The key part is to make it fun for everyone and that no one feels pressure to finish it in a hurry.

I'm in.  I have to admit the book intrigues and creeps me out.  To the local library I go.  Will be traveling to Pittsburgh for McFuzz's marathon in 2 weeks, so lots of time to read, I hope.

I have the book on my Kindle but have about 400 more pages of Game of Thrones.  Since I'm going to D.C. next week on vacation I should have some downtime to finish both.

I'm on the wait list for it at the library.  There are 73 copies and 121 on the wait list.  I more than likely will not get it in time to read and discuss on the 23rd.

Ha, I just read the description and realized I read it a couple of months ago.

Well, I read half the book last night I wont reveal any spoilers, but I will suggest if you're not good at dragging yourself away from a good book, then find a block of time where you can read it all at once! I have questions that need answering, and can't wait to get back to it tonight.

OK, this sucks. I am so tempted to break my own rule. One click of the mouse and it could be on my iPad next time I turn it on.  Grrrrrr.  Perhaps I can sneak out to the library tomorrow to see if they have it.  Perhaps I should see if DH has an old unused Amazon card (because I know I don't).  Trying to think of a justification for buying it and I am finding it hard.  Can we afford it, sure.  Can I afford every book I want to read?  NO!
