Games of Acadiana
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 00m 46s
Overall Rank = 122/146
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/5
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30 and choked down yogurt and Eggo's. Drove 45 minutes from in-laws' house to Lafayette.
Event warmup:

Scratching head, wondering where was race packet and where the hell are we going, anyway?
**Spoke to Michael before the swim and didn't even know it until I got home! Michael, I was #96, and you friggin ROCK!
Swim
  • 04m 14s
  • 200 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

What a mess! Got kicked in the left eye on the third lap. Multiple problems with trying to pass people. Ended up 3 wide at one point. Overall, felt pretty good, just a few slower swimmers in front made the small pool seem smaller.
What would you do differently?:

Bring spare swim cap
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Improving with every race. Much smoother this time around.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 33m 19s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.01 mile/hr
Comments:

1st time on "Lil' Bit" (Cervelo One has officially been christened!). Wasn't expecting miracles today, especially since I didn't know the course. Only had LB for 2 weeks, and maybe have put 25 miles on her since purchase, so I took it easier than I should have. Spent way too little time in aero bars just because I wasn't comfortable yet.
What would you do differently?:

Work my a$$ off in the off-season getting comfortable in aero bars and building up my quads to get out of the granny gears!
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Best transition to date! No real problems here. Didn't have race belt to worry about, so one less thing!
What would you do differently?:

Start running while putting on hat
Run
  • 23m 12s
  • 2 miles
  • 11m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I was more concerned about jogging the whole course without stopping than smoking the course. I did neither! Jogged 90% of it, though, which is better than my other two races. Brought water bottle with me, which turned out to be the best decision of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting up past a slow trot.
Post race
Warm down:

Found shade ASAP and relived the race highlights with hubby.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Leg fatigue on the bike, the heat.

Event comments:

Race was for an excellent cause, so I can't knock the lack of packets, race numbers, etc. Would definitely do this race again. And next time, I'll stick around for the awards ceremony!

nice job and a very good bike split. Good luck at GP on Sunday. If you get your race # b4 the race, post it so I can identify you.

Good job, good report. You were only 7 places behind me at the start, probably could have reached out and slapped me.

Yes, this is a minimalist tri, no chips, no bibs, no packet. Last year we did get a golf shirt instead of a T-shirt, at least the T was a different color.

Email Pitt (the RD, [email protected] ) and see if he can send you your medal. Did y'all hear from CajunMan yet?

Still begging for Cajunman.  I emailed Rusty (again) yesterday to let him know that Derek decided to pull himself off the waiting list.  Thought maybe that would help, just in case he was trying to fit us in as a couple.  No luck yet.  He said there were only a couple people that have dropped out so far.  Probably thinks I'm a real pest.  My training has lagged since Abitaman, so I know it won't be pretty, but I would love the chance to get out there one last time this season.

The swim was a little crowed for us with 50 yards to go I hit the wall and started to make a pass and I could see that it was backed up with about 4 people in front of me.  I just dropped in on the draft and relaxed.  I could just see me swimming over someone and it being their first tri.  They might not come back.

Sorry I didn't know that it was you.

I think that we need to Get some BT temp tattoos that we could wear to races!  Maybe we could get Ron's ok for this!

Congrats on a great race!

He's definitely hooked...even though they listed him as a FEMALE 25-29 AG!!  We're still fighting over who gets the 3rd place medal   He's really excited because he just got in his P2K.  So now the financial investment should take us both through the off-season.  We'll both be lean, mean tri-ing machines come next year!
