No joke!  My lycra ones don't give any warning at all!  One day fine...next day get you arrested.

Here's an idea instead of putting the swimsuit in a bag:  After rinsing mine I put it on top of my mesh bag of swim gear (kickboard, buoy, etc.) in my trunk.  That stuff lives in my trunk so that I never forget it.  But as an added benefit, it makes a great swimsuit drying rack

Seriously, polyester is SUPPOSED to last longer

It does indeed last a LOT longer (several x)

http://www.worldwideaquatics.com/has a good selection of poly suits.

I was just thinking how well my Speedo swimsuit is holding up - I've had it since early spring and wear it quite a bit. I just checked the tag and it's polyester - no wonder! I know the tag said it was "chlorine resistant" and so far it's been great.

I got 6 months out of my Lycra Speedo jammers before I noticed the seat getting thin. I also noticed they would stretch down below my knees while swimming. swimoutlet.com usually has some pretty good deals on last years suits.

Get the Speedo Endurance line suits. Lasts forever. Polyester but only gives 2-way vs 3-way stretch

But the again I also rinse my suit out after every use in Suit Solutions chlorine neutralizer.

swimzor - 2005-08-23 10:32 AM i wear 2-3 suits ata time, usually just 2, cas they are see through in a matter of a few weeks. if you double/triple them up youll get a bit more use out of them. put the oldest suit on top and it wears ok as a drag suit so to speak, the newer suit on the bottom.

Maybe I'm a swimsuit snob, but I'll never get this. There are a couple girls that do this at my masters class. I just don't understand. Isn't it uncomfortable? My one suit has my body in a death grip, another one would be awful. I can't wait for my current suit to wear out so I can get a new one (I'm sick of this one and don't care for the style at all). Of course, I went the poly route, so I've got a while to wait.

well my suits arent so tight that one is uncomfortable first of all. then the ones that i put over as a 'drag' suit (not that they really offer much drag), are pretty loose already since they are the ones that are now too thin to be worn by themselves. im not sure how it would be for womens suits, it may be uncomfortable, it was just something that everyone did growning up on swim team so i still doit now to get more use out of suits.

I had to do this while waiting for my new suits to come in the mail.  I found it uncomfortable under the arms...the layered suits stuck out from my body more and caused chafing similar to that you'd get in a wetsuit.  I had to tug it around and arrange it carefully to avoid the chafing.  That's a problem you guys might not have

I personally would rather buy a new suit than wear two again.  I thought it was a bit of a pain.

My 2 girls are both on swim team and their suits wear out way faster than mine.  I notice that our local swim store carries "Uglies" suits, which are made out of polyester and meant to be worn as practice suits.  They come in really obnoxious colors/patterns, but only cost about $30.  I figure I'll pick up a couple this season and see how they last.

Hmmm...I am ready for a new suit already...mine has lasted about 3 months. Any suggestions on where I can buy good quality suits for a reasonable price?

A regular nylon/lycra suit lasts me less than a month. I got really sick of going through two suits per month so I finally bought some polyester ones. They are still only a few weeks old so I don't know if they will last longer. But I can let you know in a little bit

Seriously, polyester is SUPPOSED to last longer...

I have only used polyester suits for 2+ years and none have worn out or gone see through..some are too big as my body has changed.

Avoid Lycra and get Polyester or PBT suits. They are no longer way  more money and I even found some for my kids for $25 on line..swim outlet and speedousa.com have them on sale and good prices if you look around.

I'd say a suit can usually last one season for me if I only use it for swim practice. I need a seperate suit for racing and a seperate suit for doing bike-swim or run-swim workouts (haven't tried any yet, but am planning ahead).

Check on the attached label when you buy it that it says, 'Chlorine resistant'

Non chlorine resistant togs will need to be well rinsed to last longer than 2months.

have had chlorine resistant ones that last 2 years.

First pair (Nike Lycra) lasted over a year and about 100,000+ yards.
Second pair (Speedo Lycra) lasted less than 6 weeks (left in a hotel room )
Third pair (ClubSwim Lycra) lasted about 4 months
Fourth pair (" " ) is headed towards 6 months

I'm about due for some new ones.

After putting on my favorite swim suit tonight before my swim I noticed the back and bottom was giving in. I have lost 2 swim suits in the past 7 months. How many have ya'll lost?? I am just sad...it was my FAVORITE suit! Sniff, sniff!

I've lost some suit-friends, whom I loved, too! The trick is to never get attached. The longest I've had one last is 4 months, no matter what they are made of.

Ok, so where are we buying these good suits? I went looking last week and decided to stick with an ugly, granny suit from Walmart. It's a sad, sad day when I decide that I look better naked that in a swim suit. I'm a frustrated size 14 who has a lot of junk in the trunk. Any help?

These are affordable and last forever, and are not as high-cut in the neck as they look - in fact, I feel like mine is cut a little low sometimes.

Ditto on polyester suits...I have been swimming 3 times a week since September and my suit looks brand new. It is a TYR. And I don't take particularly good care of it..just a quick rinse and hang to dry.

I have 2 suits that I rotate through. I wear one one week then the other the next. I seem to replace about one a year. I don't know if rotating through them makes them last longer but it sure seems to.

I can't emphasize enough: The trick to getting any suit to last is to RINSE it in regular water right after swimming. Then DO NOT a) roll it up in your towel or gym bag and leave it there; or b) put it in the dryer EVER. I rinse the suit in clear water, squeeze the excess out, then spread it out over the seat back in my car, because I don't go home between the swim and work. They dry out quickly in the car without mildewing, and they last me much, much longer than when I fail to follow the above procedure religiously.

I have bought several good, less expensive suits off eBay. I also bought several recently on swimoutlet.com, and paid just $17.95 each. Don't know how long these cheapies will last!

I wash my suit with shampoo then rinse. Was putting it on my swim bag in the trunk. Discovered the new spinner thingy today at my new gym. Will use it even if it makes my suit go faster- just the convenience of it is nice.

I have 3-4 suits and rotate them. I am still wearing the one I bought last November, and it shows no sign of issues.

Polyester is good. Good places to buy suits are ebay (if you know your size and brands do vary) and Sierra trading post. I've gotten very good suits, in both poly and lycra for as little as $19.99 (24.95 with shipping). Won't pay more than $25 for a suit now.

My last polyester suit lasted a year. The lining fell apart and it stretched out badly. Re stretching out- More so than the lycra suits do.

Mine seem to have a life of about 4 months. I rinse them out right after I get out of the pool.  I recently bought a Nike suit from SwimOutlet.com from the grab bag for $30 and I'll continue to buy the grab bag suits.  The pattern is an interesting pink confetti pattern, but it was cheap!

I made the mistake of buying a more expensive suit (in a tall length too.. whoo!!) and the 2nd time I wore it, I accidentally stuck it in the bunch of towels that I threw in the hamper at the gym.  Went I went to the lost and found to get it, they had already taken the clothing to goodwill.  bummer

Wow, I've worn the same pair of Speedo square leg endurance trunks (Polyester & PBT) for three years. I swim about twice a week mostly in chlorine but during the summer for about two months in fresh water. I'm pretty sure they aren't sheer but maybe I need to perform a check.

This thread makes me feel SO much better!

I always bring my swimsuit (Speedo jammers) on business trips and I did just that last month. On the second day I noticed that the rear was getting really thin and about to shred at any moment. So, I prayed to the Lycra Gods to let them last just a little longer because swimming was the only workout I could do at the hotel. Forutnately they did last, but I felt like a schmuck for throwing them out. This pair was about 6 months old and I thought to myself "they really should last longer than that, no way they could have worn out that quickly!". Honestly, I had no idea that they could wear out that fast
