Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30 (tried to sleep til 5, but once I was up...I was up). Had some water, put the bike on the truck and drove to the start. I was the second person there, so I guess I was early enough :) Had a clif bar 30 min prior to post time.
Event warmup:

Light stretching and about 100 yards in the pool.
Swim
  • 07m 37s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

Starts were 30 seconds apart and the timing for the event was done manually. Somehow 1 minute got added to my swim time (I adjusted for my correct time here), and I'm not sure how many others that happened to? Overall a pretty good swim. I was passed by one guy, and was hanging in his draft until we both caught up to the next guy. We both passed him at the wall and I then I couldn't catch back up to him, so I lost the draft benefit. Not bad though...
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

About a 200 yard run from the pool to the transition. There were no racks, so the bikes had to be laid on the ground. I couldn't fill my aero bottle until I had the bike upright, so I spent 10 or so seconds doing this. I'm glad I did, as I drink more and much more efficiently out of the aero position- it was worth the extra time.

Comments:

Pretty good hammer on the bike. I'm almost positive no-one with stock wheels posted a faster bike split :-) I could have taken the corners a bit faster, but as the road was open to traffic it was better to play it safe. I made the mistake of leaving my water in T1, so I washed my Gu with Accelerade, which came back to haunt me on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Uh, remember the water.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Not that it makes a difference, but there was no way I took this long in the transition. My spot was right by bike in/run out. 20-25 seconds tops :-)
What would you do differently?:

I still put socks on between the bike/run. I have them rolled, so it only takes 10 or so seconds to do, but I think I need to try running barefoot. Not for the upcoming 1/2 IM though...
Run
  • 27m 5s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

About 1/4 mile into the run I couldn't hold out any more and had to waste a minute or so taking a leak. It didn't help that "Stake's Hammer" :) was still a bit numb from the ride and took a bit to get going. Another 1/4 mile later and my Accelerade/Gu mix decided to cause a stomach cramp. Given the heat and my cramping, I'm pretty pleased with the result.

Event comments:

Great way to spend a Sunday morning... :)
