Thought it might be good to have a spoilers thread going so the predictions threads can still be safe for folks watching later.

The pack is starting to reel in the feisty S. Lang. Looking forward to seeing whether HTC can get Cav to the front in the end.

So are we just going to keep one really long spoiler thread or are we going to do stage spoiler posts?  I'm just thinking in the mountains that we will need a thread per stage so that we can discuss the carnage!!

Glad Universal is doing live coverage...should be a good/long stage today and everyone says it will be a sprint.

I love them talking about Lang out on his own for 120+ and how bad that must feel knowing you're gonna get caught!!  Down to about 2' off the front but still 35km to go...

But the glory of going solo out front, riding on a dream of winning a stage must be all worth it while it lasts.

This breakaway group at 18km needs to organize better if they're going to last.

Nothing controversal about hat sprint IMO, cav didnt have to change his line at all due to pettachi's move. Pettachi was just that far ahead. Awesome finish.

I thought today's tribute stage was very well done by everyone involved. Watching the L-T team + Farrar unified crossing the finish line was quite moving.

did I read correctlly that Leopard-Trek rode todays stage and are retiring from this years Giro?  Also saw that the Tour of California might be canx for them......

They should take as much time as needed to come to grips.  Also finding out that Tyler Farrar was very close to Wouter Weylandt.

I've been trying to type some additional questions/statements but I don't think they are appropriate at this time.... I'm sure they are something that everyone else has thought of....but , maybe a couple more days.

I think they are saying the peloton will race for a win tomorrow Stage 5.

Correct, Leopard-Trek will not continue at this year's Giro. Tyler Farrar also will not continue riding this year's Giro. More info here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/leopard-trek-leaves-giro-ditalia?ns... I haven't heard anything about whether they'll ride at ToC.

Stage 5 will be contested as a race. Preview of the stage is here: http://www.steephill.tv/2011/giro-d-italia/previews-results/stage-0... It has some dirt road sections, climbs that are 10+% grade, and a mostly uphill finish.

I'm loving the dirt sections of this stage -- gritty, grueling, low visibility.

Can Kohler keep his lead? Seems to be all about the descending skills today.

Ever since I got my CX bike last fall I've been riding the dirt roads here in Michigan as much as possible. I want to take it out tonight after watching this!

The dirt sections definitely made for some crazy racing yesterday---loved the overheard shot at one point that just showed all the dust coming up off the road and how spread out the race was---between riders and all the support cars it looked like fog/mist in the air.

Not sure why Petacchi sat up at the end, 2 more pedal strokes and he would have made it. Im still surprised that he really did develop some climbing legs. To finish with the caliber of rider that was around him he showed hes developing even at 38(?)

I watched most of the race, including the last km, but I didn't have any audio. Did the commentators say anything about why Petacchi did this? It looked like he just gave it to Ventoso.

Yah, looked really strange! Harmon and Kelly were definitely commenting about it. Sean mentioned he saw Petacchi taking his shoes off quite quickly post race, he thought cramps. Did he just totally blow up? Don't believe it was mechanical. At first I thought he misjudged the line or something. He (Petacchi) seemed to glance to his left and then just sit up.

Harmon also tweeted "Lampre all for Scarponi today? Did Ale-Jet feel like making a point? Who knows"  That seems a bit far-fetched, however.

Yeah I had to wonder about that end---Petacchi made the move and then just looked left and stopped................hmmmm it was almost like he wanted to show he could win BUT then gave it away.

The best part about rainy, cold, windy weather is it's a great excuse to watch tomorrow's mountains stage on the trainer.

After Contador's ferocious finish today, I'm excited to see what he does tomorrow on the 2x climbs up Mount Etna. One thing you can count on. There's going to be some suffering.

WADA and the UCI might be able to take a minute back from him, if they're feeling feisty. But yeah, short of that, it's inevitable.
