Age Group Rank = 6/18
Pre-race routine:

Got there bright and early, custom body marking by Mav :-). It was pretty chilly and looked like it could stay cold and possibly get wet. Dropped $75 on an awesome Saucony running jacket that I have needed for a while now.
Event warmup:

For the first time ever, did a short warm up run. Did a bunch of stretching because I found out that it takes approx 500 yard for my swimming to come alive and was not keen on getting wet before the race.
Swim
  • 08m 19s
  • 560 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was great; I felt really good all the way and feel that Masters Swimming has given me with much more stamina, which is good overall.
What would you do differently?:

I'm going to work harder at Masters Swimming.
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

I had my shoes snapped in, but had a hard time getting my feet in. However, it seems my transition times were pretty good compared to the field. No socks = the way to go, for sure.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting on the bike. No, really.
Bike
  • 35m 35s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was OK. I know I can do better. I think only 2 bikes passed me, so that felt good.
What would you do differently?:

Need to spend more time trying to kill hills. I carried 2 water bottles instead of one. Doh!
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

I think this was a quick transition. I can't save much more time than this.
Run
  • 30m 53s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Getting better, but still much to do!
What would you do differently?:

Keep on running.
Post race
Warm down:

Finally made it into the top 50% of any triathlon :-) Woohoo. It's only been 2 years and hundreds of hours of training to get to this point.

One of the great things about going into year #3 and being fit is that my body does not feel as beat up as it used to after these races.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running is still the big problem. I think I should be able to do this race next year at a 8:45 or better pace.

Event comments:

Another great race from Max Performance. Well run, good people, thanks!!

Nice job out there! - conditions much better than last year!

That swim definitely wasn't 1/4 mile - I used Map My Run, and you're right - around 1/3 of a mile.

Nice work out there!

Hooray for weather that was 100% better than last year's!

Just wanted to comment that I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt the swim was a bit longer than 0.25 miles.  I do also like this swim set up better than what they've tried in the past.

(I don't post on BT often, but sometimes lurk in the MA forum)

Thanks. I agree... especially about the weather! And, don't lurk... there are so many great MA people here on BT that make triathlon more fun!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the nice comments.

Mina, the straight line course was definitely better. Minimal congestion along the course, and it was much more fun to swim than navigating around a the 2 points of a triangle. The water was warmer than in previous years. I'll take it!!
