I don't think it's been announced yet.  But it is a Sprinternational distance: 1000m swim, 30k bike and 8k run.  It's close to me so I'm already signed up.  And it's only $40 before June 1st.  They are saying that the bike is flat so I expect some laps along the ocean and not over the bridge and back but we'll see.  Alan (jsparker) might know more.  I'll post any info I can find.    Bob

I'm signed up.  Can't beat $40 for a race of that distance.  I don't know anything about the course.  I check every now and then to see if any new information has been posted.  It will be my first ocean swim.

awesome. i've got family in the holden beach area so that was another reason why it was of interest to me. and you're right bob - seems like they wouldn't be able to call it flat if you had to ride over that bridge!

Just got this email from Jeremy Davis at Set Up Events:

...the entire bike and run will take place on Holden Beach and will not use the bridge.  It is basically an out and back down the ocean drive for both the run and bike.  The bike will head to the right if facing the ocean and the run to the left.  Full maps will be up soon.

Thanks Alan, I don't think I'll mind the two laps of the bike course (Except for being passed a lot!) but I'm sure that after the first lap of the run I'll want to stop.

BTW we better get more participants so the race won't be cancelled.

I, too, have been worried about the low participant count.  I'm hoping that interest in the race will pick up now that the course maps are up.  Also, SetUpEvents will need to do some promoting of this race.  They'll probably start making announcements at all the upcoming races around the state.

A few more people have signed up recently, but I'm still worried about the participant count.  Hopefully, interest in this race will pick up soon!

I would do this race but its right after B2B and I've been signed up for that since the day after the race last year.  It looks like a fun race and the 11am start time is very cool.  I like a race that I don't have to get up early for.  I can sleep in until 8am and still make the hour drive from Carolina Beach to Holden Beach with plenty of time to spare!

If anyone is interested in doing a relay, I'm a middle of the packer who could bike and/or run.

Does anybody think this will run?  It's been holding at 59 participants for a while now and although it was a bargain at $40 I'm not sure I'd spend $85 at the end of the year on a whim.  If it does run I need to lose about 5 pounds to fit into my new wetsuit.

Hey Alan, I really thought that this race wasn't going to run and have gotten woefully out of shape.  I guess I better go out for a run today.  I think I'll go and ride the course Thursday and maybe even get in a quick swim in the new wetsuit Friday.

Bob,

Looks like you've got some competition in the M65-69 age group this week!  Better get in a swim, bike, run in the next couple of days!

Good Luck!

Event details are up.  Basically a mass start.  I'm surprised they didn't at least divide men and women...........

I signed up this week. I moved to North Carolina just about 2 months ago, and was happy to find a season ending race. I needed one more for USAT ranking, after a rough couple of longer races mid summer didnt turn out as planned. I too am just shooting to finish, but if the swim is really 1k with current, and the bike is flat, then I should have no problem, and might be able to be done before awards start even.

I'm hoping for the best but the weather report is discouraging.  Winds from the North at around 20 mph with 1 - 2 ft seas.  Too bad the race couldn't have been today, the conditions are perfect.  Bob

If they cancel the swim, at least we won't be cold and wet on the bike!

ETA:  That would be a best case scenario for me since the swim is my worst of the 3 sports and I've never done an ocean swim!!!

Sorry, I just checked again and a surf report site says 1 - 2 foot seas.  Now it says that Friday will have 3 - 5 ft seas.  I'm confused.  I guess we'll see Saturday morning.  It also says that the tide will be low around 11 AM.  I thought they would have scheduled it for high tide.  At low tide you often have to go quite far to get water deep enough to swim in, I guess I'm more confused.  And the wind is now reported to be 30mph by noon!  If that's a cross wind it will probably blow me over.  Leave your disc wheel at home.  Bob

Well the good news is that we'll be swimming south really fast, right? And half the bike and run will be REALLY fast, and the other half will be pretty slow LOL

With those winds, I'm going to leave the tri spokes at home and ride the training wheels.

I'm never one to trust the predictions so bring them along just in case.  I drove the bike course today and there are many depressions on the right side of Brunswick Ave.  I think everyone will be trying to keep in the middle or even the wrong side of the road.  Most of the bike is OK on the beach road just be careful of some gravel spiling out of some driveways.  And the road is very narrow.  If there are any cars out there it's going to be dangerous.  When you take the short run from the swim to transition you run over a wooden walkway that has loose and uneven boards so be careful.  I might leave an old pair of running shoes on the beach for that section.  Even though I've checked everything out I'm not sure what Saturday will bring.  I have had an intestinal issue all week and am feeling very weak.  Had my bike and wetsuit at Holden beach today and didn't have the energy to do anything.  Let's hope tomorrow is a little better.   Bob

My legs were toast after a hard run and bike the past two days, so I just took today off. Im swimming in the morning, and Im definitely going to compete on Saturday. I wont be fast though, and my run is so bad, I shouldnt have trouble finishing, but I'll be over 2 hours. If everything is perfect, I could probably do just over 2:30.

Can I ask for the bike, how flat is flat? I know there will be wind, but is it at all hilly, or is it like flat flat?
