I see there are 5 of us from BT signed up for GW. Who else is going to be there?

Personally, I'm hoping to make it 3 wet and chilly duathlons in a row..... ;) Ha! (Cannon Falls, Oakdale, and GW.)

Dg0113, it's a wicked one to start with! The run is pretty "cross country," so be ready for that. There aren't mile markers which is good - they'd just be depressing. And the bike has many rolling hills with only 1 real painful one. I'm back for my 4th straight GW Du! Can't wait!

And I've started playing THIS game: weather.com says there are thunderstorms possible on Sunday, with a chance of precip of 40%. Yay us. The good news is the low is 56!!

Very glad I wore the old shoes....

Had a good race.  The ground and roads were wet, but the rain spared us for the race itself.  The rain started not long after the race ended and really helped speed up the awards ceremony and the giveaways.

Fun times for SURE. Here's a photo of "that guy" who fell in the mud. I was a little jealous, because it's a little epic......

"That guy" in the Red Saxo Bank shirt is 45 year old John Deering.  I spoke with him shortly after the race and he still had mud in his teeth!  Nice guy and fine athlete.

He and I and most of the other old dudes started in the last wave.  He got to T1 ahead of me.  I got to T2 ahead of him.  Sure enough he passed me on the last run and kept opening the gap, but I had my eye on the red shirt thinking maybe I could reel him back (not to be).  As we were going around the last lap of the track, I expected him to be about a half lap ahead of me and I again looked for the red shirt.  Where was he?  I couldn't find the red shirt.  Did he suddenly surge and really open the gap?  Did he forget the lap around the track?  No, there he was, not so much in red anymore as brown/black.

He wasn't the only one who went horizontal in the mud.  I saw the guy 10 yds in front of me fall.  He picked a spot that was more wet than muddy though.

Yeah, it was a fun race.

Anyone else have more stories?

This was my first Duathlon ever and I had a great time!  The mud made it a memory...a memory I could live without!  =)  I was very impressed with the condition most of the athletes were in.  It give me something more to work on.  Further, the bikes these guys had were Cadilacs compared to my Cannondale Road Bike.  Crap, more money!

Congrats on an EPIC first du!! Don't worry about your bike - I did my first (and only) Ironman on a $500 road bike with "strap on" aero bars. I had that bike for my first 2 seasons. And then I upgraded to a mid-range tri bike. Just keep having fun with it! Congrats again!!
