donwah - 2011-06-10 8:56 AM Or perhaps wait another year before rushing to sign up for your first Ironman? Is the half going to be your first triathlon?
Im doing a sprint next month, White Lake International in early september then the Half... figured take November off for recovery , gently back into it december, then start 2012 for the Full... i realize it not going to be easy, and yea unsure if biting too big a chunk but the challenge is all part of the appeal.. been training pretty regularly this year and confident i will be in shape to do the Half (with the help of BT 1/2 plan).. patience is not one of my virtues but know that is important in these endurance events.. always appreciative of advice and comments
Be sure to hire coach or, at the very least, get a training plan and do it properly. It'll enhance the experiece AND prevent injury.

I've only done 2 tri's a HIM last october and then IMTX few weeks ago.  If you put in the training and have a decent base in two of the three SBR, then I see absolutely no need to "come up through the ranks" before going for a full IM, you just have to be real with yourself.  I wouldve never done the IM if I didnt think I was ready. So I say go for it and have fun.

If you can't afford $1000 for a race, you can't afford $750...

If you can afford $750, you can afford $1000....

Does it really matter?

For most of us, the cost of the registration is just one of many expenses to consider... In my own case, even though the actual race registration will certainly be higher for NYC than other races, travel and lodging will be significantly less than for other races. NYC is a short drive from my home, and we have family just outside the city. I could see maybe spending the night before the race in a hotel near the race site if I do decide to register, but the total cost would still likely be less than travel and several days lodging near a different race.... I'm not entirely crazy about the course and some of the logistical issues (start, transition, and finish in different locations, etc...), but overall I think it might be an easier, and probably less expensive in terms of total costs, option for me than some other races....

Still on the fence, though......

WTC posted on FB this morning that they won't announce the Registration fee until Wednesday - just a few hours before on-line reg opens! How ridiculous is that?!?! I guess they think there are enough people willing to line up and pay whatever they're going to charge that it doesn't matter.... I have been thinking seriously about doing this race, but I'm getting less and less excited.... One more example of WTC's poor planning and execution for this event, IMO.....

On the other hand, you could label this as a genius idea........Depends on your perspective, I guess.

This would be way cool....even if it only starts and finishes in Manhattan.  Odd that registration opens on the 15th and they still have not specified a price?  Or am I missing something?

Would this be a wetsuit swim?

It doesn't even start in Manhattan. Starts on the Jersey side. You race about 130 miles in NJ and only the last 10 miles are in NYC. The thing is, it doesn't go anywhere near any recognizable NYC sites. All the scenes on website, like the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, etc....not part of the race.

To me, the only positive about this race is that it's my backyard. The rest of it I'm very disappointed with.

And yes, wetsuits are permitted.

would it count as a NY or NJ for your 50 states marathon?
