It's finally official!!!

Kudos to my boys Josh Fineman and Mike Buteau, fellow triathletes by the way, for getting the scoop on this one. Good work:

So, Aug 11th, 2012 - IM New York and then only an 8 hour drive to IM Mont Tremblant on the 19th.  Surely someone is up for the inaugural IM back to back challenge!

Very cool, swimming down the Hudson would be fun.  Now if they really wanted to make it a challenge they'd make it a down and back swim.  lol

Try Ironman New Jersey! Have you seen the course? You are in Manhattan for about .01% of the entire day!

Will be a record breaking swim. Hope they timed the tide of the Hudson!

Doesn't interest me much,  the best courses are the ones that show you are alone in the race, and not surrounded by society.  However, I do think it will be a massive boost to WTC PR.  If there's an event outside of Kona that will get people to do an IM its this.  To each his own I guess.

If not for the potentially stifiling heat & humidity (and poor air quaility) in August, would expect a lot of fast times.  Swim will be sub-60 for lots of people.  Bike course is custom made for tons of drafting (legal and otherwise).  Run is mostly flat/downhill once you are onto the GW.

Yeah, it's mostly in NJ, because you can't realistically hold an Ironman in Manhattan proper. Most NYC triathletes in train in NJ anyway (at least for long rides). This race is literally in my backyard so there's no way I'm not doing this! I just hope I can get in!

My grandmother lives 10' from Manhattan in NJ (Bergen county), and my parents are only an hour from the city...SO wish I could commit to this next year.  But, alas...I cannot.  I'm probably moving in the spring.

Maybe I can commit to volunteering so I can do it for 2013!

The Ironman Website calls it the "US Championship".  I wonder if they are already anticipating so much demand that they will have to make it more "exclusive" like Clearwater or Kona?

Too bad it's not in the East River, or we would guarantee this guy in Bib #1.

Here is the official link:

http://ironmanuschampionship.com/

Large thread already going on at ST. In regards to why they call it the championships, it sounds like bigger prize money/more Kona slots. I think the reg will be like any other albeit large demand for it.

I agree wish more of it in NYC although I understand keeping the bike in NJ, having the run more in NYC would be feasible and nicer. Either way since I live in NYC, I am planning on doing it.

My NYC Tri swim time is about 15 minutes faster than my other Oly swims because of the current.

Anyone willing to take a gander at the registration fees?  I'm guessing north of $800.

I would like to say 100% IN, but that all depends on the above.  It is nice to have an IM in my backyard, the savings cost on travel will most likely make this worthwhile.

FWIW, the Hudson is the cleanest it's been in over 100 years!

I wonder what effect this will have on IMLP?

I think IM TX was technically the US Championship this year.  I'm not sure about the prize money or Kona slots, but if you look at the pro points they were way above the other North American IM races.  IM Frankfurt Germany is the IM "European Championship".

Can you use your EZ Pass on the run course across the GW bridge, or will you need to bring $10 cash?

I've done a couple swims in the Hudson and never felt any negative effect from the water quality.  No one should have the quality of the water deter them from doing this race.  Check out nycswim.org

Hudson river has nothing on the cuyahoga river, which has caught fire on at least 13 separate occasions.
