Connecticut...very smart.  In my opinion, this is a fiscally smart move.  Why waste time and money prosecuting people possessing marijuana?  More states will follow once they see how much money is saved.

btw, fought the urge to buy Cheetos myself today at the grocery store.  That Chester Cheetah's tough to resist even if you don't smoke marijuana!

Agree.  I'm not sure why more states have not decriminalized it.

It is not decriminalized... less than a half ounce carries no penalty IF you are over 21. Everything else is still illegal. May be a common sense move... but it should just be legalized.

True, it's less-criminalized.... but still, makes sense for small amounts.

Agreed.... others sort of did that... like California making less than an ounce a minor misdemeanor.... at a time when Nevada had ANY possession... even a seed a felony... talk about retarded.... NEVADA no less.

I still don't get how this keeps the DEA off your case. In WA state, the feds recently raided a bunch of medical marijuana distributors on the basis that it's still against federal law--even though it's allowed by state law.

When I read about mass drug slayings in Mexico, immigrants being forced to be 'drug mules' for the pot smuggling cartels, police officers, children, and whoever being gunned downed, political corruption, and the destruction that surrounds the whole mess....yeah, who's it going to hurt.

Are you implying that decriminalization of possessing small amounts of marijuana will create more problems?  I'd argue that the #'s of people killed over it will stay the same.  The big difference will be in taxpayers not having to foot the bill for the costly legal process of trying these ridiculous cases and then paying for these peoples' imprisonment.

Once the government gets smart and legalizes it (btw, legalizing something doesn't mean you are promoting it...take cancer sticks aka cigarettes for example), the price of marijuana would plummet.  The government could grow it, sell it AND tax it.  Win win.  And guess what?  When the price drops, there is no incentive for drug mules to carry marijuana.

That was easy!...you can keep the pot, pass me the Cheetos.

The local paper claims that 6.7% of our court cases were consumed for this exact offense. Now it becomes a simple adminstrative activity like a parking ticket. As a taxpayer in CT, I'm happy about it. Why spend our resources on what is really a trivial offense akin to speeding?
