Total Time = 2h 10m 45s
Overall Rank = 22/494
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/38
Pre-race routine:

wheat bagel, coffee, 16 oz of gatorade.
Event warmup:

10 min easy spin to make sure my bike was ready, jogged 10 min, swam 10 min.
I also took 2 endurolytes previous the swim and active stretching.

Swim
  • 23m 4s
  • 1408 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was alone most of the time and got off course a few times. I felt I was swimming ok, but after I saw my time I got a bit disappointed as I know I can swim a bit faster. I also kept getting water in my goggles, because I missed to place them properly at the beginning of the race
What would you do differently?:

I have to trust my training and go out faster at a steady pace; I know I can average at least 1:25 per 100yds for a mile. Sometimes doing open water swim I feel I am going to blow my swim and I end up holding back.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 05m 56s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 22.66 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt I was pushing hard at some points but I am sure it was that my legs were tired from Timberman last week. Plus my goal for this race was to push hard on the bike and see how much left I would have on the tank for the bike. I think I did a great job on the bike, and indeed I pushed a bit harder than usual, hence it end up affecting my run speed a bit. Unlike other times I was the one doing the passing on the bike and only 3 to 5 guys passed me
I also started getting pretty uncomfortable with my saddle, so I am sure it is time to review my bike fitting
Drank 26 oz of cytomax, 1 GU and 3 endurolytes.

What would you do differently?:

TRAIN MORE AND MORE AND MORE
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
What would you do differently?:

myabe do it a bit faster?
Run
  • 38m 30s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 06m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I tried to get into a rhythm the first 2 miles. I took a GU just starting the run with water to keep my carbs intake in check and took 3 endurolytes.
Around mile 2.5 I increase my pace but I felt like my legs wanted to cramp. I was uncomfortable on my right calf and both hamstrings. I focus on my technique and pace with short steps. I kept drinking Gatorade and pouring water on my head/legs to keep myself cool and keep my legs from cramping. Between mile 2 and 4, I like 6-10 racers racers. At mile 4 ½ another racer caught up with me and passed and this pissed me off (I am not sure why) but I figured I need it to stay with him. Somehow I was able to forget about the potential cramping on my legs and took off with him. I stayed with him until mile 5 when I just took all my energy remaining and increased the pace even more. At that point I passed him and saw another two racers just like 400 meters away from the finish line. I just went ALL out and passed one (the winner for the ladies) and end up next to the other one.

What would you do differently?:

nothing much. I was defintely a bit tired from Timberman, but still managed to put together a great race
Post race
Warm down:

streching, gatorade and FOOD!

Event comments:

Awesome experience. This Olympic distance was the New England Regional Intermediate Distance Championship. So I am pretty excited with my results. I know that I need to do A LOT of work to compete for the top places but I will focus on that and keep having fun as I had been having for a years now. I love this sport!

LOL How dare you non-chalantly come up to us and say...."well, I gotta get going now..." with that big ol' medal around your neck???!!

Wow that was sooo cool and funny - I am so sorry we were all just hanging out and not paying attention to the awards. You'd have had the wildest crew cheering for you for sure! We all knew you finished REALLY FAST.....after each person finished, we'd  check on everyone else and  see how well they did....everyone was asking, "How did Jorge do?" (after "did Max beat May?" )

YOU ROCK JORGE! Your training has paid off well in your first year! We'll be watching you closely next year too!

Damn, if I put in the ride of my life, I "might" be able to finish 2 minutes behind you. But run 6 minute miles? I couldn't do that even if I added a 3rd lung! LOL...Nice race Jorge, next year you will be even faster and one of the top triathletes in New England. I hope you don't leave us for some other sleazy organization!

(ooops...did that come out right??)

Dude... You hammered that race! CONGRATS on a great finish and the hardware! Sorry my wife and I didn't stick for the awards... I was spent after getting up at 2:00 for the drive and draggin' my butt around that course.

CONGRATS again!

Man, you've got some fast feet! Nice race, especially coming off a week after Timberman! I think you're on the wrong FastSplits tri team; I bet for next season you could move up from Vibe. Keep up the awesome work. A real inspiration.

Only 2nd place in your age group?  I expect you to WIN it!   It just amazes me every time I read your report.  You just did a HIM a week ago and you still performed so well.

Ready for Boston next week?  Gotta take a picture WITH you.  You'll be famous by next year and I can show off to people.

You are one insane, maniacal, fast son of a gun.  I don't think I'll ever see a 2:10 Oly, but its a great goal to shoot for.  Nice job, very nicely done.

Jorge....awesome race!!

You are so fast and compete with the top guys!! Plus you are already giving back to the sport by trying to encourage others to try a triathlon.

You are so humble....which is often rare in todays sports I world.

We look forward to seeing you next year and what all you can accomplish!!

It is hard for BTers to be there to cheer you on since all the rest of them were still out on the course.
