Comments:

I upheld the honor of the old guys, as no one over 25 beat me in the swim. Swam well. The entry was for s*** due to the footing, but other than that it was a fine swim. HR was pegged coming out. Sometimes it does that when I go from horizontal to vertical. Regardless, a good swim.

What would you do differently?:

Smooth out at the end and save more for the bike.

Comments:

Meh. Long run to the bike, and long run out.

Comments:

242w avg power, 249w normalized. I have it at 21.8mph - note this is a very hilly course, so that speed is pretty decent for the course (overall winner was at about 24mph). Official time shows I was 30 seconds faster. Not sure how that worked, but they have me at 22.2mph. That is just about 1mph faster than last year (and the course was changed to make it a bit slower, I think). I still have a good bit of work to do here, as I was really expecting higher power numbers and a bit better speed. But this course is tough to get in a rhythm.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure, but I never really felt comfortable. My power on the hills was down due to really high HR. 176bpm average is super high for me.

Not a great performance here.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Awful. Forgot to take race belt out of bag. Tried to swig water from a bottle that was turned closed. Forgot to get Garmin on the way out.
What would you do differently?:

Pretty much everything.

Comments:

Only two folks substantially faster than me. Most of the folks that beat me were within about 20 seconds of my time. 22:11 - for a 7:23/mile average or so on a very hilly course. I felt much slower than this, particularly on the first uphill, in which my HR was beyond pegged. I did manage to settle into a good pace and stride it out. Happy with the run effort. For me that is pretty good, particularly on this course.
What would you do differently?:

Not much here. I really ran well.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Power on the road. Awful transitions.

WOW... great race!!! REALLY nice swim... I have to figure out how to get better on the bike... that single portion kept me from being AG competitive... that was my worst result on a course I have ridden 7 times now... hopefully we can actually hook up at one of these events...
