Got a flat at mile 15. Hit a piece of metal that was on the course. Was going to give up but a moped came along and changed the tube.

Volunteer freaked me out at the dismount line causing me to flip. Then she called me fat. Then I had enough and quit.

Post race
Warm down:

12 mile bike ride when I got home. Wanted to make sure the bike was ok and so were my cut and bruised legs. Other than paint and a grip being damaged the NEW bike worked fine. Oh yeah so did the legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Current, flat tire, volunteer who thought they were funny.

Event comments:

The bike was as advertised fast and flat. I'm sure the run was as well.

The swim was suppose to be an EASY swim. The boats picked up over 40 people. The faster time for a 1000 yard was over 20 minutes. This was not an easy swim. I saw a girl crying because of the swim. She was pushed off course by at least 1000 yards. Yeah that's how strong the current was.

Through it all I kept a positive attitude and even laughed when I flipped. But to have a volunteer call me fat, that ended my day. 166 at 5'10", I have a gut but by no means would anyone call me fat.

Suit: desoto first wave
Course: Was in the first wave. Apparently after our wave started the course was altered. Everyone started in the wrong direction and were being moved off course rapidly because of the 2MPH current. Yes we swim INTO the current. Not something mentioned on the website. This was not a wetsuit legal race because it was 78.2. I was DQed because I wore one.

good you kept grunting through. Sucks about the unfortunate incidients that happened through race.

thats crazy, swimming into the current.

I thought USAT rules stated anything over 80+ suits weren't legal.. if you wore a suit at 78 you dont qualify to win awards..

Tough race... bike and run were flat but the swim was uphill the whole way.   I was in the second wave and felt bad for you guys in front.   Way to hang in there!

momo, yeah the USAT rules clearly stat at 78 you do not qualify for awards.  It doesn't say you're DQed.

Funny thing is I made the first orange marker and thought I was doing ok.  Just keep on the same line.  Next thing I know the turn marker was WAY!!! to my right.

Debating coming back to the same race next year.
