Age Group Rank = 2/20
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:30am, grabbed my coffee and left (packed the night before). Got down to the site about 6:15 or, grabbed my packet, got body marked, and set up my transition area (had a great spot on the end!)
Event warmup:

Got my wetsuit on about 10 minutes before the start of the race, and went down to the swim start (I was in the first wave), and jumped in the water to loosen up (swam to first bouy and back). When I got back rumor was flying that the swim was running 20 minutes late.. So I sat in the water, and chatted w/ some friends, and did a couple more swims.

Comments:

Had a great swim. Stayed Focused, and when I got out of the water I saw that only 1 guy had come out in front of me, and 1 next to me.

  • 19.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Did ok. Had some stomach issues, and cut my foot open in the swim, so that was a little achey, and belly was "full." Campy Gears were also being very stubborn, not shifting big ring to small ring...vice versa.
What would you do differently?:

Work on nutrition. Probably should have eaten a GU, but my wife took them w/ her to Ironman Canada, and I didn't notice until the night before. No biggy though.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

No changes here... Went great. Any time under a minute.. I'LL TAKE IT!

Run
  • 25m 45s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 07m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

This run was work for me. Felt a little sluggish at first (still had the belly ache), and it did get better. I also had a strong finish and was able to pass a few people... BUT UGGH! Why can't I just have a race where all of the race goes great!
What would you do differently?:

??? Prep more coming off the bike (ie:nutrition.. raise my cadence coming in and loosen my legs more.)
Post race
Warm down:

WATER, BANANNA'S, and a Muffin. AND MORE WATER

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was tired.. trainig for a half-ironman.. i didn't really "rest" prior to this weekend.

Event comments:

Started late..Disorganized... Didn't have an awards ceremony afterwards (when for 2+ hours after the race they said they were getting ready to start the ceremony).. then a computer cliche and they would mail us our award for placing...

Good race.  How's the foot.   I think of that scene in one of the Prefontaine movies where he runs with a cut foot.  Gutting it out in the Race....

Wow, great race! Too bad about the disorganization and lack of awards ceremony. Hope your foot heals up quickly.
