Subject: RE: Cutting Cable I just did this last week. My cable bill was $200 ($50 for internet, $110 for cable TV, and $40 for landline phone). Now I'm keeping just my internet through Cox cable, for about $50/month, I believe. Bought a Roku, and subscribed to Netflix and Hulu Plus, and I've already got Amazon Prime. Since cell phone reception is horrible inside my apt., I bought a Nettalk Duo. It plugs into the cable modem, and you just plug your regular phone into it. You get your own phone number, and it's just $30/year. (Or I believe there is a lifetime option too, if you prefer.) Easily saving $125/month or more. The one thing that really irks me is HBO. I'm *more* than willing to pay $10 for an internet-only HBO subscription so I can watch True Blood and Game of Thrones. And they even offer HBO over the internet through HBO GO, but in order to use it, you must also be a cable TV subscriber! Totally lame. So, I'll just get the episodes as bit torrents and watch them that way, and for sure I'll purchase the DVDs when they come out. And as soon as HBO gets out of the stone age, and offers an internet-only subscription, I'll sign up! |
