Definitely clip those suckers in!  My big concern when I did Silverman was with there being too many people going up the hill at once, but come race day it wasn't an issue at all.  Overall, it's a very exceptional T-1.

I'm going to run it in my bike shoes.  Mainly because I don't believe in flying mounts and always run in my shoes, but also the bike starts with a climb and I don't think it would be much fun to be putting shoes on while riding up that.

p.s.  I'm loving taper.

You are doing it wrong. I don't do a flying mount. I use bands to keep the shoes upright, stop, slip into one, push off, and then slip into the other before I have made a complete turn of the cranks. It really is very simple. And there's about 100 yards of flat road before the rotary to tighten down the straps. No way I would run that whole way in shoes, too slow. At Vineman I even ran up a short steep hill beyond the mount line and actually passed people before I got on the bike.

Tapering is awesome!

You have about a 1/4 mile of flat before you hit the hill.  Below is a link to a copy of the silly map we made for this exact purpose for our team last year.  You are blazing fast, so I will not question your race plan, but we all did not have an issue of strapping in with ample time to doodle around before hitting the hill.  Click on satellite for map options and you can see T1 in detail minus carpet.

Seems like a good skill to have.  I'll have to work on it for next year.

Thanks for sharing the map.

Weather temps just keep getting better as the week moves closer. Lows in the low 90s now. BAM

Race day is almost here! I am flying from the east coast on Jet Blue on Wednesday night. It will be my first time flying with a bike so that should be interesting. Jet blue is a bike friendly airline so hopefully I won't have any issues. I did just realize I am flying US Air from Vegas to Phoenix where I'll be going on a vacation for a week after the race, and I may get slapped with a $200 bike fee! Yikes! Totally booked my flights before I realized tribike transport wasn't an option due to timing. Now I am trying to figure out how to get my bike from Vegas to Phoenix post race without spending a small fortune. I mean, I could buy at least 2 seats on the plane for my bike and it would still be cheaper!

Any of you guys have any suggestions?

Other then cancel the Vegas to Phoenix flight and rent a car and drive, it's less then a 5 hour trip, I can't think of any.

Just an FYI, I was laying out gear today and gave a thought to the T2 set up. We will be dropping our run gear bag at our assigned Transition space at T2 Saturday afternoon and won't have access to it until we ride in Sunday. There's a chance of afternoon or evening rain for the next week here in the southwest, so I threw in a small transition towel as well as a plastic baggie to put my shoes and socks in overnight in case it rains, would prefer dry run shoes in the morning. Something to consider.

I am not doing this race but...to the person talking about not clipping in before getting on the bike, why would you not?  Clipping in giong UP a hill out of t1 could be borderline dangerous. If you are worried about not getting your feet in, you can always pedal with your feet on your shoes up to the top of the hill before sliding them in.  You will have more of a surface area to pedal.

Well, to be fair the hill is almost 2 miles long with a steady 3-4% grade. But the opportunity to get your shoes right is the first few hundred yards are flat leaving T1.

Leaving in the morning, should be at the Expo and Regsitrationa round 1pm.

Good luck folks!  Hope to run into a few of you this weekend.  I'm staying at the Ravella, and arrive early tomorrow morning.  Feel free to send me a PM if you want to meet up pre or post race.
