Subject: RE: Anyone doing the Mayo Lake Tri?As explained by Michelin: "The oval shape of a bicycle road tire contact patch permits effective water evacuation to help keep the tire from hydroplaning. The footprint of a 23mm tire (approx. 7 sq. cm) is so small that the bike would need to be traveling at about 120MPH in order to hydroplane." That'd be a heck of a bike split But no I was freaked out about hydroplaning too! So I had to research the possibility. Most loss of traction is due to the painted lines and metal covers combined with user error. That one downhill had me scrubbing my brakes to keep them dry as carbon wheels SUCK at slowing in the wet...lol |
