Age Group Rank = 44/247
Pre-race routine:

Not much, I woke up at 4am and ate 3 oatmeals with 2 yogurts. Then it was time to head to the race site. Once there I prepared my transition and made sure that everything was ready for the race. After that I walked around to memorize the transition and get ready for the race.
Event warmup:

I ran a little bit over 2 km to get ready for the race. Not much besides that.
Swim
  • 39m 56s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim went pretty good according to what I can do as far as my swimming skills are right now. From what my watch told me the swim was a bit longer but it was the same length for everyone so I can't complain there.

I did a great job and pass a lot of swimmers from the waves ahead of me, which is always nice for me since I do not swim that fast.
What would you do differently?:

I have to get more in the pool to get better at swimming, I will eventually ;)
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Really good transition, can't complain much about it
Bike
  • 2h 41m 40s
  • 90.12 kms
  • 33.45 km/hr
Comments:

What a great bike split, not much I could ask for more then that with my actual bike skills. I still need to work on my hills skills but I am really happy with that.

The plan was to try to get an average of 190 watts with 142 BPM on the bike.

I completed my bike split with 188 watts and 140 BPM. Not exactly what the coach said, but close enough to make me happy ;)

One of my wife's friend was there with her husband. And so far every time that we were at the same competition I always beat him. So Saturday she told me that he said that he would crunch me on the bike. He was planning to pass me on the bike, even if his wave was leaving 20 minutes after mine. So my main plan was to get the best bike split possible to keep him behind me and then to overrun him.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Awesome transition once again. Lost some seconds to put on my socks but that is about it.
Run
  • 1h 46m 59s
  • 21.08 kms
  • 05m 05s  min/km
Comments:

When I started the run I knew that my legs were not perfect. I guess that pushing the pace on the bike didn't help with that. My plan was to run a sub 1h45 half marathon and up to the half point I thought that I might have a chance at it. But on the second half the stomach decided to shut down a little bit and I couldn't get any nutrition in besides water. I could feel that my energy level was going down. At the 15km mark or so I grabbed a coke to see how I would react. I never really tried that in training but I needed to find a way to get some calories in. It worked pretty well actually, which helped me to get back with a not so bad last 5.5 km. Not enough to get that under 1h45 time but still happy with my overall race.

A really hot run, but I found the way to keep my cool. They had snowballs at one of the aid station, it was pretty awesome :D

Another P»R for me, but 8 minutes or so.

Oh and in case you are wondering, I beat my wife's friend's boyfriends once again. By 4 minutes :p I guess that he will eventually beat me, he is 14 years younger than me, but so far he never did :)

The best part of all, I got my medal from Chrissie Wellington :)
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing actually, I walked around and grabbed a cheeseburger :p

Event comments:

Awesome race, the only thing that would be cool is if they could fix the pavement because at some place it was really not pretty

Good job. I was there with my team (Les Chickens, Montreal), and it was awesome.
