IM CDA 2012

Did the race in 2010 and thinking about having another crack at it. I'm trying to decide on whether or not to do Honu and Vineman or just do CdA.

Kailua tri - 2011-09-05 12:19 PM Any thoughts on preparing for the 58 degree water? Kailua bay felt like 85 yesterday. 

Not much you can do here. I did a few practice swims at Ala Moana in my wetsuit real early in the morning during my training if air temps were under 75. Mind you none of these swims were greater than 1500m because I'd start to feel overheated in the suit.

When I got to CdA, I did a couple of practice swims just to get used to the temp. Didn't really help much, but it was better than just jumping in on race day without having experienced the cold water. Once I got through that first loop in the race, though, I completely forgot about the cold temps.

I'm thinking of doing long soaks in an icebath during training if I do this race again.

I did IMWA this past Dec, and arriving there the water seemed like ice, but my wetsuit felt pretty good...although my face was cold.  but by race day it was a quite a bit warmer.

I don't know what the water temp was, but it felt cold.

all my practice swims were here on Oahu..nothing else special.
