Overall Rank = 244/349
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 25/30
Pre-race routine:

Energy bar and Powerade/Amino Vital mix 2 hrs before race. Sipped mix on the way to race.
Event warmup:

Did a little stretching while waiting in line for swin and put my fit in the water a bit. Didn't have a chance to do a warmup lap.
Swim
  • 05m 39s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Listed a faster swim time than normal just to push myself and to keep from being slowed down by slower swimmers. Only got passed once, after 1st lap. Mainly due to the initial shock of the pool being 10 feet deep at jump in.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Fastest T1 time yet.
What would you do differently?:

Forgot to dry feet off. Ended up with pruned, blistered feet after the run portion.
Bike
  • 56m 22s
  • 14 miles
  • 14.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Didn't scout course beforehand. Big shock. Was expecting some rolling hills, but it seemed to be uphill for 14 miles. Didn't help that legs felt sluggish as soon as I got on the bike. Got passed by seemingly 200 riders. Never passed anyone.

Worst average speed in all my races so far. Granted, it was only my 5th, but I've had better speeds on a mountain bike.
What would you do differently?:

Scout course out.

This was the clincher to upgrade to clipless pedals and shoes.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

No issues. Pretty much a slow jog as I was gassed from the ride.
Run
  • 25m 31s
  • 2.9 miles
  • 08m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

Not bad considering my legs were completely gone. Started feeling good about halfway through.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for 45 minutes waiting for wife to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike course.

Event comments:

Would have been a great race if I hadn't sucked on the bike so badly.
