Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30. Test, breakfast, coffee, hit the road about 5:45. Not much traffic, and parked at Lakeland church parking lot and hopped on the shuttle bus with no problem. My seat mate was from Colleyville, and we had good conversation on the way. At the race site, chatted w/ a nice lady and she noticed my insulin pump and said her hubby has one too. He's just getting into running. Kinda nice in a way to go this race alone...makes me more likely to talk to other folks and that is always fun and interesting.
Event warmup:

Milling around and light stretching.

Comments:

PR by 9 seconds overall, yay!!! And PR for this course by more than that. Started off a bit fast, but glad I banked a little time since it was humid and heating up. Hills came later in the course, and walked parts of those when I could see/feel my HR going up too much.

Blood sugar was 140ish pre race, turned basal down to 60% of norm one hour prior to start. Ate 1/3 cliff bar before start, then 1 shot block about mile 2.5. Did not test mid run. Was 260 by the end, so probably could have skipped the shot block.
What would you do differently?:

Would like to eliminate the walk breaks eventually, but I think they served me well today.
Post race
Warm down:

Mill around and mostly look at the food. Blood sugar too high to consider eating much. Bought shirts for Becky, Kerry, Mom & Jim.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Think I need to practice running at faster paces more. I tend to only throw in a teensy bit of that the week before a race, which doesn't do much good.

Event comments:

This is my 3rd time doing this race and it is consistently well done. Shuttle busses from remote parking lots work really well to minimize traffic. Like the setting, and the shirts are the BEST! Enough water stations (not that I used them), and post race music and food is plentiful and good. Parts of the course are a bit narrow, but not much can be done about that.
