Run
  • 48m 18s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

My target time was to beat 50min (previous best was 54m40), so a nice easy calculation of 5min per k.
Got fairly near the front for the start of the race so it didn't take to long to start running, hit the first k marker in 5m10 and generally picked up 10 seconds every k. About the 5/6k mark their is a slight incline at the same time as the path narrows to single file. Frustratingly slow here and found I had lost most of the time I had made up. Once the road opened up I felt pretty strong and passed loads of people, the highlight was spotting and passing a PE teacher I know in the last K. Ran the whole race with my wife at my side but she succeeded in pulling away in the last bit to beat me by 5 seconds. Smashed my pb by over 6minutes, woo hoo.
What would you do differently?:

Had a great race, can't think of anything.
Post race
Warm down:

Went home, had a quick shower and bite to eat then headed up to the golf course to play in a mixed open with my mum.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably still around a stone overweight.

Event comments:

Finally broken the 50 minute barrier, oh no, there's a 45 minute barrier sitting behind it.

Dave,

You smashed your PB! Congratulations!
Keeping quiet...that long term goal can be crossed off.

Hey, just found a couple of pictures of the 10k on the web.

I'm all in black. Honestly we are all running much faster than it looks

Hey Pulch, nice pb!!

Forget the 45min barrier, I think you should aim for the 40min barrier.

Keep up the great work.

Paul
