Pre-race routine:

PBJ and coffee for breakfast, walked around downtown waiting for the race to start, cheered on the marathoners
Run
  • 1h 59m 52s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Once I started the downhill portion (mile 10) I started to run faster because I still felt pretty good. That ended up being a mistake! By mile 11 I felt like I was going to puke and I noticed that my heart rate was very high. So I had to walk a couple times that mile to get my heart rate down. All the cheering and encouragement made me start running again and I started to calculate what pace I'd need to maintain to still make my 2 hour time. Ended up doing a really hard sprint at the end to make sure I made it under 2.
What would you do differently?:

Not try to run a 7 minute mile in the middle of the race! :-)

Get some better running shoes, I had really bad blisters by the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank a bunch of water, ate some fruit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cardio capacity! Muscles were fine but definitely need to do longer runs more frequently.

Event comments:

Very fun, definitely want to do this again next year.

Nice work on making it to the finish. The second half is definitely a harder course than the first half. And the temperature was definitely a killer!

I ran the full and while I also went out too fast, the second half would have kicked my azz no matter what!

First half split was around 1:42:40-ish but the second was over 2:15!! I walked a lot of the last 5 miles .....

It was the first one I've done, so anything would have been a PR.
