Comments:

all men started same time, lots of elbows, legs, running over and getting run over. hard to get total immersion rythym. lots of head up, low hips. no visibility in water at all.

What would you do differently?:

stay to outside, rounded turns at bouys. Concentrate, concentrate on Total Immersion FQS, long body, hip rotation, hide my head, roll head to air with core body. Too many people and chaos in the water to get in any rythym.

Transition 1
  • 04m 33s
Bike
  • 36m 55s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.50 mile/hr
Comments:

John Peters loaned me his Cannondale R1000. Big difference in performance. Bike weighed on 20 lbs. My bike mountain bike weighs 40 lbs. 2mph better average than last Tri at Ko'Olina four weeks ago. Max spd 31 mph, 13-15 uphill on bypass Hwy, 22-26 mph avg on Kam Hwy and flats.

What would you do differently?:

Get clipless pedals / shoes / cleats for the next race. Then next year, budget to get my own road bike.

Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

didn't change shoes. ran in same nike shox as cycled in.

Run
  • 23m 49s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

a little slow after coming off the bike. Hard transition from grass to sand for 200 yds, then good transition to packed sand / dirt roads. Last mile in sand was very hard. Felt slow during first two miles, like a 9 minute pace, then even slower in sand.......but, avg'd 7:57 pace.

Post race
Warm down:

lots of good food and drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

2nd race, one wave of men on start, chaos in water for triangle course this short. Much improvement on the bicycle (20 lb road bike vs 40 lb mountain bike). the sand........

Event comments:

My second sprint triathlon, only four weeks after my first. Improvements in overall and age group, better times in all three event.
