i'm hoping to do this race again. it was a fun experience last year, lots of schwag, and a great way to jump-start the season. anyone else interested in doing it?

http://recsports.software.umn.edu/triumah/

i may also do the indoor tri at the duluth clinic in march. there is no online info about that race, so pm me if you want information.

here are some picture from tri-u-mah last year, so you can get an idea of the venue. hard to see, but kelly (kelpeng) and i are on the 2nd and 3rd treadmills in the top picture. the pools there are amazing!

I'm planning on doing it as my first triathlon. Thought it would be a great way to break myself in!

Yes, it's 30 minutes of swimming, 30 minutes on the lifecycle, and then 30 minutes on the treadmill (each separated by a 10 minute transition). Highest total distance wins. It was fun to do something a little different!

So do they rank the results by type (undergrad, alumni, community) or is it ranked by men vs. women?

Both; undergrad men, undergrad women, alumni men, alumni women, community men, community women... and then overall results too of course.

Autmun,

I've been a little slow on the draw for this one. I'm in (but I haven't registered yet). I was thinking maybe us BTers could get together afterwards for a post tri meal maybe? I suppose I should get off my duff and get registered huh!

I'm registered! I put in for the 9, 9:30 and 10ish times as well. Yes, I think a BT gathering post-race would be great!

awesome, kris! once everyone is registered, i'll email the race director and ask if we can all be on machines next to one another. last year kelly and i were able to race that way and it was a lot of fun (especially when kelly looked at me in terror as i almost fell off the tread mill....twice!).

I registered today. Same time slots as all of you - 9-10 ish. I get pretty focused while working out so nobody get too offended if GErb goes off into his own wolrd on the bike and treadmill. Autumn - you have me a little scared about the falling down on the treadmill thing (since I don't use one regularly). Can you explain what happened? Old guys tend to worry to much LOL. I am still swimming my laps doing breaststroke so you guys who can't flip turn don't worry. I may be switched over by then but in my swim team days it was the one thing I could not master. That is why I like lake swimming! I am excited for this event!

just heard back and they can probably all get us into the same wave. if you've already registered with the 9/9:30/10:10 preferences and want to be on machines together, email me you FULL name! [email protected].

if you haven't registered yet, get in there soon! the early slots are filling up.

Hey Autumn - Thanks for asking about the 1/2 mary.  It's the 27th - less than 2 weeks away.  I'm pretty excited and kind of loving that I'm in taper right now.  I have been really faithful to my training plan and realize the need for a true plan...I'm already looking forward to my off-season plan once I get through this race.  Anyway, I will post a race report after we get back from Seattle.  We're not coming home until the 28th because I'm thinking it would not be in good form to run a 1/2 marathon and then jump on a plane...

Question - for the bike portion do we bike at a certain resistance, for the treadmill portion are we at a certain angle/elevation? Or is it up to us? Thanks!

Okay - this isn't relevant to this thread, except that a few messages ago Autumn asked about my half-marathon.  I never got around to filing a race report, but I finished in 2:19.57 and I'm pretty darn pleased with the whole deal!  The last three miles I had some ITB issues that forced a bit of walking, but until then I felt really good.  I will definitely do one again!

See you all in Feb at the U!

Nora,

You can go to the Tri-U-Mah website and e-mail them your question. They responded fairly quickly to mine. See ya there!
