Pre-race routine:

I was at a meet in Orlando with my mom on Friday and Saturday. We got home at 11:45 on Saturday and we had to get up on Sunday at 3:45. I couldn't sleep on the way down to Miami, so I was pretty tired for the race. I ate a Lunabar and drank some water and Gatorade.
Event warmup:

swam a little bit
Swim
  • 14m 13s
  • 1000 meters
  • 01m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

The lake was nice and clear, not a lot of seaweed. I swam good until I caught the wave ahead of me, it was a little harder then because I had to get around a lot of guys. But it was a good swim.
Transition 1
  • 04m 11s
Bike
  • 1h 29m 49s
  • 23 miles
  • 15.36 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the longest bike leg I have ever done. It was pretty windy, but I think I did pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Get down in my aerobars more.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a bit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

too tired

Event comments:

Awards were late and i really wanted to go home because i was so-o tired. But it was a pretty good race except for that.

Great Job!!

Super race....my daughter reads all your race reports and can't wait to be like you and do full races...Emily is 11.

You did awesome in the swim....and nice bike time for the first time at that distance.

Where there other kids your age in the race or all adults?

I just want to say how proud I am of you, not only for this race, but for this whole season. Your average on this 22 mile bike was right at your average for 5.6 miles last season! You have raced under many adverse conditions this season and you never gave up, no matter how frustrated you were. Be proud of your accomplishments, for you have worked hard for them. Remember, it is the journey, not the destination and the process, not the product. Enjoy your break and I look forward to seeing what you will accomplish next season!

Love, Mom

Marisa, you were terrific!  Sorry I didn't get to stop and chat when I saw you after the race.  I was volunteering at the finish line and by the time I realized it was you I'd seen cross the line, you were gone.  (You're just too fast for me!)
