Comments:

As previously stated....HOLY HILLS, BATMAN! I turned the corner after the first mile and in front of me was a formidable 1.25 mile hill. I didn't know there were hills like that in Edgewater. The worst part, was after that long haul, then there were 5-6 short, very steep hills with short, very steep downsides. I can't honestly say I hated it because I ran such a great race, but I was shocked how hilly it was. Mile 2 up the long hill was my slowest (9:18) but mile 6 on the way down that hill was my fastest (7:18). It felt good to turn the legs over that fast for such a long period. This was definitely the best I've ever performed mentally - I honestly gave it everything I had. A huge PR for me. Didn't expect to crack 54 minutes, so I had a great race. Not to mention I spent the entire day yesterday putting shingles on a 10x12 pitch roof. I had orginially planned on using the same HR pacing strategy as my last 10k (2 miles z2, 2 miles z3, 2.2 miles at whatever I could handle), but the hill right off the bat sent my HR through the roof. I ran the whole race on PE. Very inconsistent splits due to all the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Event comments:

Annapolis Striders knows how to put on a race. Awesome swag. $15 bucks got a long sleeve shirt (it says "I fartleked my way through the Turkey Trot 10k") and it was the most impressive spread of food and drink I've ever seen. Smoothies, hot cider, loads of fruit and bagels, tons of cookies and sweets...to much food to mention. This is definitely going to be an annual race for me - I had a blast. They also had hot chicken and beef broth after the race - what an awesome post race drink when it's cold!

Way to go Dave!  Dropped 3:30 off your 10K time on a hilly course, that's impressive.  Sorry I missed the race and all that food.
