IMHO, the Forerunner 301 is still a more versatile tool, appears to do everything that the Edge will do except cadence (and to get that on the Edge you have to forego the HRM), plus you can use it in your running and for multisport. Plus it's <$200 and available now.

Yesterday I forgot to turn mine off after my bike ride and got in my car with it running...when I picked it up to turn it off it told me I was going 44.4 mph and therefore could go another 0.6mph without speeding.

That's about how useful it is.

Kidding...but it isn't the cool color navigator gps type stuff you see in cars or commercials.  The breadcrumb trail really is just a breadcrumb trail and it might show major highways but that's all you'll get.  So...IMHO, not very useful while driving.

Probably not very useful. Certainly it can track your route and speed, but is less useful for navigation. It has a mapping function, but not very detailed, more like finding your way back along a route. It doesn't have capability to download detailed maps like, say, the etrex Vista that I also own. The Vista is a good driving tool with detailed maps, will even tell you things like what businesses are at the next intersection when you're driving on the interstate.

Basically the Forerunner is a training tool, and a very good one. Wouldn't try to use it for driving or navigation.

At additional cost I'm sure, although it doesn't say how much.

Hey, if you're convinced it's the solution for you, knock yourself out. I just don't see where it does even as much as the forerunner (and a Cateye), for twice the cost.

These are all valid points. I will do a comparison before I buy, that's for sure. I just want a single unit to incorporate all the pieces instead of having one for cadence, one for HR, etc. I also have to admit that I favor the bike during training since it's just more fun to me. Lastly, if you take the time to check your garmin during the swim, you have other issues to deal with....heh heh.
