Total Time = 7h 58m 8s
Overall Rank = 1166/1250
Age Group = Clysdale
Age Group Rank = 27/32
Pre-race routine:

Gotup early and drank coffee. Ate Power bar and bananna. Prayed, walked around and visited with friends.
Event warmup:

Stretched, put on wet suit, got in water for a brief swim.
Swim
  • 1h 03m 31s
  • 2112 yards
  • 03m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

I need to learn to not slow down when people are swimming up behind me. I thought they would swim over me. I need to get more comfortable with the waves and ocean swims. I wanted sub 1:00 and could have achieved it if I would not have freaked out when the waves came up behind me.
What would you do differently?:

Swim stronger. Got a fater start before the other groups came up on me. Keep working on open water.
Transition 1
  • 05m 49s
Comments:

I could not find the strap to remove the wetsuit. It is a long run to the transition and then out to start the bike. I should have run with the bike. The girl next to me fell. That freaked me out. She was OK.
What would you do differently?:

Faster run to trasition, work on gettting wet suit off faster.
Bike
  • 3h 18m 30s
  • 56 miles
  • 16.93 mile/hr
Comments:

I could not get comfortable in Aero Condition.
What would you do differently?:

Work on Aero. Get computer calibrated.
Transition 2
  • 04m 27s
What would you do differently?:

faster at shoes and socks. Put on Vasoline.
Run
  • 3h 24m 33s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 15m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I got blister so bad I could not run. I tried but just felt like my feet were going to explode. I had that IT hip thing going on for the last three weeks. I was really unsure if i would be able to run anyway. Spend a year injury free and then two weeks before my hip starts killing me. So having that to deal with, I am happy.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training for transtion runs, Find some shoes or orthopedics that help my feet from blistering
Post race
Warm down:

Kissed my kids and carried them across the finish line.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

blisters and anxieties on the swim

Event comments:

A great race and so many stations and volunteers that it makes other races seem unorganized

Congrats on your first HIM!  Must feel great to acheive a goal after so much work.  Too bad about the hip and blisters.  Guess it's just one of those learning things.  That's cool you carried your kids across the finish line.  I read somewhere else that the water was very choppy.  Caused some motion sickness with them.  Hey, once again, great job and congrats :-)

Great job and sorry we didn't meet up. I watched for your number but at that distance the mental haze is tough. Keep up the great effort!

Congratulations on your first HIM.  I'm impressed at how you raced and finished with the obstacles thrown at you.  I saw that Joey did well too.  A fine showing for the Alex City boys!

thanks you can be with us next year. Joey did real well.  We did the run together.  He dealt with cramps in his legs.  But long course is about perserverance.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Congrats on completing your first half-iron ... take a minute to bask in it b/c as long as the run felt after the swim and the bike, it must have been forever having to suffer through the blisters + the twinge in your hip!

Btw, based upon your RR, I bet the parishoners are never late to lunch on Sunday!

Here's to a great season for you ...
