do you really need arms to swim?

Fish don't have arms and they do pretty good.

Maybe I should try that - he looks faster than me.

That's awesome, though. It's so great that despite his handicap he is able to go out and live a normal life and compete in sports.

I swam 300 yards with my hands behind my back. Kind of like a dolphin, I had to though it was a drill in the military. It's all about staying calm.

I've gotten really good at swimming with my eyes closed. Started as practice for OWS and now almost a habit. I keep them closed when my face is in the water and only open them to sight when I breathe. Felt so strange at first, but now I don't even realize I'm doing it.

But when the Coast Guard is training in the rows next to me, eyes are open all the time. It's my duty as an American.

Interesting...never heard of swimming with eyes closed. That would help me tune in to myself versus seeing how fast the person in the lane next to me is going...I struggle with that at times, and it ruins a long swim!

I saw a tip on BT once to be ready for an ows (where you can't see underwater) it's good practice to swim with your eyes closed. Not sure it actually helped me in my race, I had to keep my eyes open to make sure I wasn't going to be clobbered.

i saw a thing on a kid whoes arms and legs stopped at the joints, elbows and knees) and this kid was playing HS football tackling kids and stuff.

A woman who trains with my multisport group had an arm amputated due to cancer.  She is extremely talented and can kick many of our butts (including mine) swimming, biking and running!!  She rocks!

no, I cant do that... I can only go 40 seconds with arms at my sides.

I've seen someone race whose arms end halfway to their elbows.... and it looked impossible that she could actually be getting that kind of distance per stroke. If I had that kick, I could probably bring 50m down from 40ish strokes to 25
