Great movie. Peter Jackson has matched, if not topped, his LOTR work with the best ever retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story. If you love BIG movies, run to see this one.

A little slow for the first half, but hold on to your seat after that. Recommended.

Hope I can sit still for three hours. I have heard nothing bad about it.

I heard it was way too long and that most of it was "jurassic park-ish".

I can't wait to see it. Been sick all weekend so my movie going is behind. They were a little disappointed in the box office numbers at first.  I think alot of people were expecting this to be the biggest money maker of all time. I dont think this one is going to unseat Titantic.

Then you heard wrong. Go see it and make up your own mind, or go look up some movie critics' reviews if you don't believe me. I would even disagree with the assessment that the first hour is slow slow, IMHO it's a well-acted, well-scripted set-up for what is to follow.

Just behave yourself, don't want to have to alert the authorities.

I's afraid to. I have more confidence in leaving my 9-yo twins home alone than to leave you guys. Censors, wrecked bladders, Hollis peed herself...

Geez, Bear, I feel like I should be paying you for the entertainment.  You crack me up.

As far as Kong goes, maybe I should wait till I see it to comment, but I am a huge fan of Peter Jackson's.  After watching the bonus stuff on the dvd's for the LOTR movies I feel like he did with those movies, and apparently with Kong, what a fan would do if given the opportunity.  So many times I see a book or movie done by someone who wants to put their own mark on it, and I think that his mark most closely matches the way I like to see the stories done.  I'm glad that he was successful enough with LOTR that he has enough clout that any projects he takes on he will be able to demand that they be done the way he wants to see them done.  I think it means great movies out of him for a long time to come.

Just got back from seeing this epic... and epic is not used loosely. Jackson did a great job in this retell of the film noir classic. The action was intense and often after the intitial base of the story is laid out. Like bear said, the setup does add to the character and story development. Yes, we all know the story but the retelling cannot assume you're already seen the original. It has to be a complete movie unto itself. Thus, the setup is necessary.

I might be a bit of a perfectionist but there were a few lackluster periods in the special effects department where the digitized images were glaringly fake. These flaws are fleeting and probably not even noticeable to most casual viewers. But I'm a casual viewer and I caught them.

Definitely see this film in a big screen theater if possible. You will not be disappointed.
